He seemed to take an instant dislike to the Aussie forward sironen . He hit him with everything apart from the kitchen sink. The end result, sironen being led from the field, out for the count.

Waddled off like he'd dropped more than just the ball! That bandage on Barrie's arm was only there to serve one purpose!

Must admit I didn`t think Waddell was all that bad.

And didn`t he originally play on the wing?

Harvey Howard apparently did start life on the wing. We signed him from Widnes, where he was a prop. As far as I know, when he left Leeds he went onto play for the now defunct Western Suburbs (Magpies).

Just checked Wikipedia, I'd completely forgotten about him playing for Wigan then coaching Hull KR

There's a general opinion that the game now is much faster than 'back in day'. Against that, about 25 years ago, the players look quick, quick distribution etc. The game doesn't look any different in it's purest form (omitting fashion changes, hair cuts etc).

I remember Doug Laughton was the Widnes coach at the time and he refused to appear with Moriarty at the disciplinary it was so bad.

Hughie Waddell was teetotal which must have endeared him to the Stoggies and Town Hall Tavern cliques at Leeds in thosedays
