| Quote: LS13 "Great ain't it .
A couple of inches of snow and the country grinds to a halt . One of our car salesmen couldnt get to Leeds from Halifax today or yesterday , but a customer drove from Kettering to collect a car he bought from us .
I have tried three different vehicles to get in to / out of work , all successful . An old Citroen AX , a RangeRover V8, and a TDi Discovery that is heavily modified for offroad use (high-lift susp..16" INSA TURBO tyres etc ) .
By far the most enjoyable way to get home from work in the snow is walking down the centre of a 1.5 mile , freshly cleared , dual carriageway stretch of the A6110 . The road had been closed due to an accident (of which I saw no evidence). I walked down the white lines . Only danger I encountered was a snow plough wagon . Sneaked up on me from behind . He missed . A few minutes later he came back up for another go . Missed again unfortunately
I don't get it.
Most of the main roads i've driven have been fine. Not anywhere near bad enough to ''stop you getting to work'' and such.
Less busy rural roads are worse but can still be negotiated by simply driving slow.
Even in bad snow the main roads are never 'that' bad because snow plows and constant traffic just wear it away.
grinding to a halt my ar$e.

| It's not the conditions that are the main problem its the h0les who think they are rally drivers and have not the slightest bit of commonsense.
Lastnight driving home on frozen slush(it was -3 degrees) with snow falling on top and anything above 20mph being dangerous morons still drove 5 to 10 yards behind.
This morning warnings on the M62 said skidding possible. One mile later turning onto the slip road there was some idiot who obviously had taken no notice and was facing the wrong way on the slip road, apprently having spun.
These idiots need locking up as typically they will maim some innocent 3rd party and not themselves which is what they deserve.

Nice rant, what if the person who spun was just avoiding some other idiot?
I agree about some drivers having no clue how to drive in the snow but I'm sure it's not that bad living in a highly populated flat city like Leeds in the snow but try venturing to the smaller hilly villages were only the A roads have constant traffic, it has nothing to do with your driving style then.

I span out 360 twice last Saturday driving on some minor roads in heavy blizzards in Staffs. I was driving cautiously but when yuo have a rear wheel drive car with low profile tyres and you're on a hill or an adverse camber sometimes there's nothing you can do.
Luckily for me, after i was stopped facing the wrong way, people helped and didn't adopt your holier than thou attitude.

I was reversing down the main carraige-way. Got more traction in reverse. Also, I have one of them fancy reversing cameras with a telly so I didn't need to defrost the windscreen.
OK, ok, it was 180.

You don't need to explain yourself G1 , I'd like to see Andreww remember the exact angle of his spin whilst reversing up the dual carriage way after 7 pints of stella.
