| I doubt he'd want to come back to the current basket case. Not going to him after Furner is another of those 'what if?' questions there seem to be so many of over the last few years....
The problem is it feels like the club needs yet another root and branch reboot, as while he did some good things around culture and helped make a few good signings, Sinfield has left us with a lot of poor appointments in the most senior roles and a squad that while not as bad as performances would suggest is probably further from competing with Sts than most of us thought.
Whoever the next coach is should come from outside the club and be free to hire whoever they want as assistants. Its a huge ask for someone to come in mid-season into a demoralised club and turn things around without money for signings. There's also a risk we'll get lumbered with a long-term dud coach just like Agar seems to have become.

| I’d love Smith back at Leeds. Superb coach and levels above Agar.

I agree with some of this but Smith went to HKR when they were in a right state and in part worked with a job lot of young players signed from Bradford. I think he is still renting a house in Hull, a move to Leeds would let him move home to near Huddersfield and if these young players are as as good as some think, (i’m Not convinced yet) it would seem a good fit. I don’t think fans would expect quick miracles but his teams play exciting football and I’m bored to death watching this.
I reckon any wire fan would say they played most exciting stuff they have ever watched under smith, I would say that about his 4 years at Leeds.

the best Rugby we have played IMO was 2005 - ironically a year we didn't win anything but we were outstanding and entertaining to watch.

If he comes I hope he can smuggle Mikey Lewis out with him.

| We should remember that Smith took over a side with bags of potential, which isn't as clear now. He also spent a whole off-season with the squad doing skill sessions. He also wouldn't be likely to find an Ali Lauti'iti mid-season. Doesn't mean he wouldn't end up turning things round if he came back, but its a very different challenge coming into a team that's shot with ageing players and hacks all over the place and probably no space under the cap in the short term.

Very fair points but I don’t expect us to only lose 2/28 SL rounds like we did in his first season in 2004.
As for an off season of adding skills, I could think of worse things to happen in winter 2022/23

| If Agar doesn't want to be flogging a dead horse at this point in his life would Tony Smith? Much less expectation at HKR. Also less interference from above and likely a longer shelf life.

Just making stuff up isn't particularly useful.

| Interference is an unknown but expectation isn't. Its not about Leeds being a bigger club, but the expectation would be that Smith would be able to return us to the glory days, and after a honeymoon period he'd be constantly under pressure to get us to finals and win things.
What does success look like for Smith at KR? He seems to be moving the club in the right direction. If I were him I'd stay put. If I were a KR fan I'd definitely want him to stay.

Really ? realistically he won't ever win SL with KR and highly unlikely to win a CC. Agree he's moving KR forward and it's good to see, SL needs two strong Hull clubs and I mean no disrespect to KR, just being realistic. With Leeds there is much more of a chance of achieving both those in the not too distant future. I suspect he would be very interested in getting us back to the top again. It must be very tempting for him I would have thought.

He would , but think the time to get him would have been before KR. Not sure he’s the right man to turn this around now. I’d prefer someone younger and more hunger. Looking at sport , how many times is a return to a club anything more than nostalgia…??

Agree with this, there is a saying for all career paths "Never go back", its a saying for a good reason

| Smith was interested when he needed a new job. I just get the impression he's happy at KR and enjoying what he's doing. I'm not sure why he'd need the stress of Leeds now - he's 18 years older than in 2004.

| Id be very suprised if Tony Smith broke his contract with KR. Hes never done so before.
He approached Leeds very late in the process before Agar was officially appointed, at that time Smith had a kind of temporary contract with KR to see them to the end of season as a caretaker. He was the only coach interviewed for the job but it was already Agar's job.
