| To be fair, his team are going through their worst run in SL, and it's all a far cry from 10 years ago. Add into the mix questions being asked re the Bulls franchise application for 2014/2015, and you can see perhaps why he's not a happy bunny.
Not that I've a great deal of sympathy though, as this was the guy at the begining of the season who appeared to be gloating over our poor start, and happily predicting our imminent downfall in a Bradford Bulls stylee.
Mind you, a probable 4th place finish could be used to justify his viewpoint!

| How bitter is Adey
[i"He was invoking the Standard Leeds Exemption (see RFL Operational Rules, section headed "Standard Over-Arching Leeds Exemption". The relevant clause is just after the one that gives Leeds blanket exemption from forward passes, but before the one requiring refs to turn a blind eye to offsides following a penalty kick at goal.
Apparently the holiday relief on the Appeals Committee were not au fait with this wide section of the OR, and there will be hell to pay now."[/i

| Adey is a reasonable poster who posts reasoned opinions. However, he does have a weak spot where Leeds are concerned and his persona often slips exposing a bit of a rabid and unbalanced view where we're concerned.
I take it as a compliment.

| One thing that keeps coming up on these threads about a SL club losing a franchise is
'The team (insert any number of teams mentioned) coming up won't add anything to SL'
What exactly do the likes of Wakefield, Cas, Crusaders or any other team offer? Surely it's about ambition, it's about players having the chance to play at the highest level and supporters to see their team play at the highest level.
Leeds are okay, you'll be there forever but why should smaller clubs be denied?
What reaction do you think there would be if Blackpool FC were told they couldn't play in the premiership because it was a closed shop and they didn't tick the right boxes?
I don't know if you're aware of this being one of the top of SL clubs but Batley can apply because they have won the Northern Rail cup yet Fev who so far have only lost 2 league games and have won the minor championship trophy or whatever it is called can't unless they reach the grand final which is nothing more than a glorified play off comp. In theory if we pick up injuries or have 2 bad games after being consistant all season we aren't allowed to apply. Stupid rule, yet Toulouse don't even need to reach a Grand Final or win the Northern Rail cup to qualify because of their special circumstances.
The answer is bring back promotion and relegation but make clubs improve facilities gradually and not spend money chasing a dream that is in the hands of the buffoons running our game.
Wakefield will go and deserve to for shafting Championship clubs with broken promises about how they would vote on certain issues.

Mate i can see your frustration and you have a point to be fair.
What the clubs mentioned offer is that they are competitive in this league already and especiallly Cas and Wakey they are producing quality youngsters.
I would prefer the promotion and relegation to be reintroduced but the RFL won't have that because the likes of Quinns,Catalans and Crusaders(this year aside) would be under threat.
The Crusaders will be protected full stop because of the farce of last year and the RFL would prefer to save face than judge all clubs the same.

The reason P&R won't be reintroduced has feck all to do with expansion and everything to do with stopping clubs from spending money they don't have just to try and stay in the competition, bankrupting themselves in the process (see Oldham and Workington for two examples before SL closed its doors to automatic P&R).
Having a franchise system gives some degree of certainty to clubs and enables them to plan in the long term rather than looking to make short term signings every year just to ensure they stay in the competition.
If you go back to P&R, you can kiss goodbye to a number of Championship clubs as they spend themselves into oblivion trying to win the holy grail of a SL place, then stay there.

He's the supporter equivalent of Chris Caisley then.
I also agree with your summation of the McDermott/Fielden skirmish at Valley Parade. The initial challenge that Fielden objected to was completely legal. Ganson couldn't have got it more wrong if he tried.

Those are the rules and they have been in place for two seasons. What happened to Featherstone in the Northern Rail Cup? Did they give it a high enough priority?
The inclusion of the Northern Rail winner extends the possible ways to tick the box. That would be welcomed by the Championship clubs I'd have thought.
I wasn't aware that Toulouse could apply without ticking that particular box. If true then that is just wrong.
