In this aspect I can see some logic in paying less money and taking more of a risk on an up and coming coach.
For what Leeds need right now, I actually disagree it's a ball-buster.
For me Brad Arthur would be a good fit, if and when RS departs.'"
Smith was touted as an up and coming coach and look where that has got us.
We do need a tough coach to sort this shambles out, who is prepared to drop the supposed stars like Newman when required.
We need a Craig Bellamy type not a soft touch.

It would be if it weren't true - sadly not the case ask Furner, Tetevano, Austin, Farrah - a blast from the past. The list is a long one.

| I guess McNamara has built up Catalans from relegation candidates. But his teams are too grubby for my liking. And in terms of trophies he's well behind the likes of Wane, McDermott etc - who have had much shorter careers in first team coaching. It would have made more sense for him to have gone to FC than us.

Im no MacNamara fan and I hope he doesn't replace Smith but I think its unfair to compare Wane and McDermott with him.
Going to coach a near relegated catalans side to coaching the Wigan and Leeds sides wane and Mcdermott did is a different kettle of fish IMO.

Catalans aside, McNamara's tenure at Bradford has quite a lot in common with the final years of Brian Mac at Leeds (minus the trophies). Bradford were still spending full cap when McNamara was in charge, and whilst their financial woes ultimately did for their stay in SL, McNamara's time handling the pressure at a big club with expectations is hardly a ringing endorsement for him taking on another pressure job. He might be a better coach now than in 2009, but still...

More than likely but as in most cases the minority shout louder than the majority. There has to be a reason behind the quality of NRL players Leeds are able to attract these days?
This is the by far the biggest club in SL but that is not reflected in the quality of player it attracts from the NRL:
Miller - 29 - played 19 games in the NRL
Momirovski - 27 - played 60 NRL games with 5 different clubs
Faustitua - 29 - played 108 games - had significant injury problems which is a factor in the warriors let him go
Frawley - 29 - 50 games in NRL - was a disaster at the Giants - why?
Lisone 30 - 120 NRL games
Is this the best Leeds can attract - if so why?

The quality of all imports from the NRL to SL has fallen off a cliff
Theres a lot of luck now involved imo
Theyre either old and at the end of their career or younger and not getting into nrl sides

You can't make donkey's into thoroughbreds.'"
