The 'swop' has not worked for Donald. Why not try him back on his natural side for a couple of matches?'"

And you think that continuing to play in front of a capacity crowd, and hearing the groans whenever he cocks up again is in someway going to motivate him?

Or that his fellow team members are delighted in effectively playing a man short in the squad?

We've had two excellent seasons from Scotty, whilst the rest has been a catalogue of under achievment, with this year being a mirror of his first season.

He can play on the left wing when he's back in Oz. We should continue with the excellent pairing of Hall and Senior. icon_cool.gif

Why does it speak volumes that you are criticizing Donald??'"
Because I have been his staunchest defender on these boards.

So continuing to play him will improve his confidence!! - dropping/rest - cannot make his confidence any worse surely

A team that is not playing well cannot afford to carry anyone - I would swop him for 3/4 weeks if that doesn't work then I think a rest is in order

According to Emma, all you have to do to stay in the Leeds side is stand behind the posts shouting "come on chaps, I know I'm useless but hey I'm motivational".

Because Hall is playing better than Donald did last year when he was on the left. Although I do agree that we should change them round, Donald may return to some of his form from the previous 2 seasons, and Hall will be solid at least on the right.

Continuing to pick him COULD send out the message that you believe in him, think he's a good enough player and he'll come through a drop in form sooner rather than later. By the same token it could end up destroying a player, as he continues to struggle week in, week out. That's a decision for the coach to make, and is a big reason why he's employed.

Also, putting him in the reserves could either allow him to "find his feet" again, or make him think he's not wanted or make the situation worse.

I'd agree the current situation can't go on, but how to solve it is not something that's easy to predict.

I guess this is where having a coach with good man management skills comes in

I think Tony Smith would take the hard line approach and drop him. I hope Brian can do the same.

Squads lighter this year but if Halls fit then it would be easier to pick Hall & Watkins than sticking with Donald. Heck why not ever add BJB to the mix.

Would it be a good idea to drop Donald to the reserves.
Would this improve his confidence or destroy it.
Was it last month or the month before Watkins was copping some grief from the fans?'"

I know they gave the old shin splits excuse but i think when Bluey dropped Maguire from the team (even if only to bench) for Murrayfield he came back much stronger and has gone from strength to strength.

McGuire does have a genuine history of trouble with shin splints though.

Donald's form fell apart at Manly part way through 2005 and they dropped him to reserve grade. There was no recovery in form and I don't recall him playing for them again.

Maybe dropping a complacent player is a good thing but if its confidence that's lacking perhaps not.

Quote: mps "very rare a team has two top class specialist wingers, the cap does not allow it, i do notice how many wingers get tackled because they are carrying the ball in the hand they should be handing off with, or stepping inside off the weaker foot. unfortunatley for donald he has drawn the short straw out of two left wingers.'"

tonights monday club conversation... hugo mongyaaaaeea (british lions left winger) would have scored 2 tries had he had the ball in his left hand and used his right to hand off with, maybe its not a specialist posistion anymore.

Correct, and at International level, not being able to carry and fend well with both hands is abit of a poor do really, seen as they get all that money, and all the time they need to practice.
