If he - and Ambler also - aren't going to get picked unless we have a lot of injuries, we'd be better letting them go elsewhere. In the case of Pitts probably permanently because I doubt he'll ever be first choice. Ambler's a more difficult one - Leeds have let a number of young props go through the years who have physically matured into very good players. Then again, I haven't seen him play for a long time, so he could just be a pudding.

I think he and Ambler will be gone before the season is out.
What i've seen of Pitts i thought he looked decent enough and especially in the u20's but he's not someone i'd pick before Ablett ,Jjb ,Clarkson ,Delaney ,Hauraki and i'd even switch one of our props there before calling him up.
It's interesting that the club have switched Daniel Smith and Brad Singleton positions with Smith now at prop and Singleton taking the 13/BR slot hopefully both will continue to play to their undoubted potential.

What exactly did he do wrong in the few opportunities he got in the first team last season ? He looked quite useful in the second row...and I have a vivid memory of him and Buderus getting back to defend the line against a 'certain try' from opposition (I can't remember which team).
He might be behind the likes of JJB, Ablett and Clarkson....but I'd rather the likes of Pitts be developed than the likes of Hauraki (nothing personal) and even Delaney.

Without a doubt Pitts - and Ambler - would have been a better choice to retain over the likes of the older, less talented (or am I wrong?) Kirke.

My biggest concern about Pitts as a back-rower in senior grade is his bulk. He looks a decent athlete though and I'd like to see him playing more.

That said, I don't see the players in training every day. Which is one of the many reasons I don't pick the team...

I did'nt say he'd done anything wrong just pointing out where i see him selection wise especialy under this regime.
I'd definately retain both before Kirke as for Delaney he's done a good job at BR but i've already expressed surprise at how long he re-signed for with Clarkson and Singleton waiting on the fringes both in front of Pitts imo.
i posted on earlier thread during pre-season there are some big calls imminent re-retention and promotion from Acadamy to the 1st team in the Forward department kylie is a definate departure plus i really doubt JP will do longer than 1 yr after this one and no-doubts imo that Kirke will move on then there's the call on Amor to made who should be recalled.
If you look at our fringe players and Acadamy prospects in the pack it's a big list.
kylie-retiring 2012
Bailey-definate to be retained
Griffin-3yr deal
JP-still got this year and maybe 1 more
Moore-3yr deal.
Delaney-3yr deal
Ablett -definate to be retained.
Clarkson -long term deal
Jjb-new 3yr deal
kirke-2yr deal
Ambler -ooc 2012
Pitts-ooc2012
Amor-Should be recalled for 2013 with a 2yr deal.
Singleton- Expect a long term deal announced this year.
D.Smith-ooc 2012.
Syron-Junior on loan
Nicholson-junior on loan
Stewart-long term injury so who knows.
Like i said some big calls to be made in the next 18mths or so and some experienced players on the way out.

Hasn't Ablett expressed a desire to go to the NRL?
Would love to see him stay but if he wants to test himself then I think we have to let him, more players should be looking to do the same.

Hope he doesn't go. We should try and retain him. Cannot recall him making any mention of NRL. Hope he doesn't go

Sick of hearing people coming out with this rubbish. Our own competition should be the ultimate test for any player. Increase our salary cap and let's keep our best players to make sure that happens.

If a player want's the better lifestyle that Australia offers, then good luck to them. But it should never be down to testing themselves.

It is an inescapable fact that the NRl is a mor eintense competition than ours. It is the toughest domestic Rugby League competition in the world.

Therefore, whether you like it or not, if a player wants to test himself that is where he goes.

I've lost track of the amount of players who have played week in week out testing themselves in that league, then come over here and failed miserably.

If we lose our best players our own competition dumbs down. The ruling bodies should be ensuring that not happening is the priority in any future plans.

You're subtly trying to change the argument. I don't disagree we should try and keep our best players in Super League.

However, you were saying it's rubbish that players go to the NRL to test themselves. It's not Rubbish, it's spot on.

I agree Gotcha we should be doing all we can to keep our best players but whilst the RFL continue to "insist on gimmicks" the intensisty of our comp won't get anywhere near the NRL and now with the imminant SC rise in Oz i can see us struggling to keep all the best players here.

Thought he went ok when selected but has never really had a run of games to prove his worth. The same would go for Ambler but how do you fit em all in when you sign others, mind you have had to change my mind about Griffin and Moore suprisingly looked a handful in pre-season

We are also talking about a player who has won every domestic team honour there is to win, bar the challenge cup, available to win in this country. Why should he not have the ambition to try and win trophies in a different competition?
