Mick Worrall! Ah! Happy memories of Leeds recruitment policy of the 90s.

实事求是!:

Quote: A-Fire-Inside "Zak Hardaker & Featherstone, but it didn't quite turn out like that did it?
The hardaker one was as good a bit of guile in recruitment as you are likely to see in super league.

Leeds signed hardaker in 2011 with the foresight that webb was getting past his best. Webb is moved on at the end of 2012 at which point the younger, cheaper and english hardaker has already taken his fullback spot and is performing just as well (arguably better when you factor in the penalties and sinbins webb was often prone to). Then this season, suprise suprise webb isn't playing much.

These are the type of subtle recruitment decisions that the top clubs make year in year out to keep themselves ticking over.

On topic, always thought Gaskell looked a good prospect at 7, but don't realy understand why he's not had a sniff there at Saints when Wilkin and Wellens have been the halves. I'd want to know why that was. In 2011 he finished the season well and I'd have been delighted with the signing. Whether he'd actually be a good signing depends on what went wrong and whether it can be fixed. I certainly wouldn't see him as competition for Ward or Sutcliffe, but he might be the type of player that would allow one of them to play at 6 in the long term (and I'm thinking of succession planning here as our current squad numbers 6,7 and 13 are fine now but won't last forever) with the other at 13. They both look a bit like (very good) 13s at the moment, which means we need a proper 7 if we're going to accomodate both. IMO, obvs.

But that rumour seems to have gone a bit quiet, so I suspect there wasn't much in it anyway. Could be wrong.

Big thanks to the people dredging up the horrible memories of Doug Laughton's habit of bringing world-beating forwards from Widnes to Leeds and miraculously transforming them into overpaid wastes of space... *shudder*

Ian Scott, but as you have kindly opened the door, I'll give it a nudge.

Ian Scott was a big Cumbrian Forward signed by Douggie Laughton. Unfortunatley, he was gash. Couldn't catch, knocked kneed and very average.

One pre-season I found myself in the lavatories at the high class nightclub formerly known as Mr Craigs when who should be in the urinal next to me but said Ian Scott. Breaking the golden rule of mens lavs I struck up conversation, mid-.

I said to Mr Scott that I was very much looking forward to watching him play next season. As he smiled politely and said thank you I finished...

"yes, it will be good as I get the A team games for free with my season ticket".

I left without washing my hands before getting Pummelled as he didn't appear to find it funny.

He does if he can count hours. You said 72 hours, and it's passed, your source was wrong.

I'm yet to be convinced on the value of signing Briscoe too but oh well.'"

You have a very short memory. Gaskell was good enough to play for Saints against you in the 2011 GF or weren't you watching? The half backs were good enough to boss the game for 60 minutes and Gaskell's kicking game was good enough to continually leave you pegged you back, until Burrow's brilliance won it for you.

Gaskell has had his problems at Saints mainly with the coaches since then. Nothing to do with his ability.

Of course he's "good enough" to play for you (IMO of course)!!!!

Is your source still saying Gaskelll has signed for us and waiting for announcement or was it simply a false rumour?

Maurice bamford signed him to beef up our pack ,as the pack we had at that time was a bit timid. Ratbone was bit of a hard case both on and off the field.
I believe he may even have spent some time at her majesty's pleasure . He broke his jaw, possibly on his debut , so his playing days at Leeds did not amount to much.
