Having thought about it..
A) There's no way McGuire would have had time to see how long was left. He would have had a rough idea at best.
B) Shenton should have left it, without doubt. McGuire was very unlikely to score from where the ball was positioned. However, had he tackled McGuire would he still be offside, if he was infront of Sherwin? Or does the fact McGuire's picked it up then put him onside? It's amazing how few of the rules of this game I actually know, despite playing it for a long time.
