| Looking around all the SL clubs most if not all are short of middles.
We have 4 props plus Thompson and Donaldson as cover. In the back row we have more than enough cover. O’Connor is ready enough to cover loose forward to enable Smith to cover front row. Of course if we have 3 props out like Hull we along with the rest would struggle but that is downright bad look that no team can manage. As for rest of positions not only do we have cover but competition as well (apart from half backs) so my glass is half full this year.
What is it about Rhinos supporters, we are not happy unless we have a gripe over hooker Dwyer cops the lot. Well talking with pals who support other teams I can tell you that they believe we have three really good players and great depth!
Obviously they don’t know what they are talking about.

| Quote: KaeruJim "Marty don’t forget what happened when Gale went; we gave contract extensions to key young players to retain them. Money much better spent IMO.
Gale is/was good but Sezer is the better player.
By the time we have more cap and quota I’d like to think Jack Sinfield is thereabouts in contention as a back/up - although if Austin doesn’t work out we will need to go back to market again. I can see us making a play for Will Pryce anyway. Would be a great foil for Jack.
I agree we’re short in cover but it is what it is. I wouldn’t criticise the club too much for decisions made over the last year or two. We do need to be smart again this year into 2023 as well though.'"
Wasn’t a fan of Austin signing, but he might be the right player for us just now specially alongside Sezar, get Austin back to mainly being a runner/attacker he can be devastating as we saw in his first tear at Warrington.

If he’s out then I can’t see us throwing Walker straight back in at the deep end.
We may be looking at Sutty back in at half……

Not sure about ‘devastating’ but could be very useful, yes…..

| I'm not as gloomy at the thought of myler slotting in the halves occasionally. It's not worked great in the past but often because he's had to run with a worse option partnering him. Even gale didn't show up well when he faced similar. Plus, the team was made weaker still as the stand in's for myler were often weaker too - altogether a terrific handicap.
But with walker back and myler properly paired in the halves that's a far less shaky set up.

| Although not the situation we'd want, alongside sezer myler would perform better in the halves than we've previously seen.

| There’s not many if any squads in SL that have a player as good and as experienced as Myler as 3rd/4th choice halfback or have a fullback as good as Walker as 2nd choice

| Having Gale along with sezer, Austin and then myler as back up could have been seen as wasted cap. Some of those contracts may not have been immediately urgent but they'll have done a lot for players sense of value and making a point to others with aspiration.

That remains to be seen but i tend to agree witj you. A partnership of Myler and Austin could be another story though.
All this, well no other team has 3 quality HBs or depth there is fine and dandy, we did have. All contracted, all under cap. What a great advantage we would have had. I mean Saints have 3 or 4 quality centres should they sell a couple cos nobody has 3? Its a crazy argument.
I hate comparing with the golden team but should we have sold Maggsy, Sir Kev or Rob cos no other team had 3 quality halves in their ranks?
Anyhoo as i keep saying fingers crossed Sezer and Austin stay healthy and then there is no debate to be had
Whats done is done.

| I'd agree, Austin and myler isn't a partnership I'd relish. Suppose it depends which way you want to see it, the advantage may be in the morale boost given to those with improved contracts and those behind, it may have been in distribution of the cap where there's greater need if a prop were to be found and it may have also solved some disharmony with Gale being ousted (he can wobble as we know). I cant see how the 3 of them would have fit in the 13 and I'd have been dissapointed if that would have been at the cost of Smith.
All ifs and buts, the one thing I feel we know is that Sezer and Austin is the best of the options we had even when Gale was here.
Though valid to note, McGuire, Burrow and Sinfield became a bit more flexible as a 3 with (Burrow and Sinfield possible at 9 and Sinfield 13). Gale, Austin and Sezer don't provide anything like that or varied enough skill sets.

| Myler's biggest failing as a half (in my opinion) is his complete lack of a kicking game. He would do alright as a foil to Sezer because he would barely have to kick a ball. How he'd fair with Austin is a bit more debatable, but I do think that Austin is no slouch as a kicker. His spiral bomb is scary and he can also hoof it miles from deep. Like others I hoped Gale would stay, but it's clear that is not what Gale wanted. Fingers crossed we have a bit of luck with injuries in the spine positions. We are certainly due some.

| I'm gonna throw it out there that either Kruise or Corey Johnson will be our back-up half.
Myler too good at fullback to move IMO. Wonder if Walker would ever consider a switch to 6 to re-invent himself. Not sure if he has the skillset though.

| I was thinking the same thing about Walker in the halves.
Was also thinking if he could play centre as opposed to Briscoe if Newman is out.
