Quote: Marty Grrrrrrrrrr! "The quality was dreadful but the guts and effort was phenomenal. The usual suspects Cuthbo Hall JJB Parcell all excellent but one guy who rarely gets praise and is doing an excellent job and coming on nicely is Anthony Mullally. I think hes going well for us at the moment.

Keeping Jack Walker is a priority. Hes an X-factor player with fantastic footwork. Watched him in 16s and 19s and said he was star quality. We cant the likes of him, Newman, Holroyd etc leave.'"

Glad you mentioned Newman one of his tries against Wakefield U19s was spectacular and would be worthy of try of the month.

We got some great talent coming through.

That was a win for guts & determination our ball control & attacking movement was as bad as ive seen at times but that last 30 minutes what an effort.
Our Pack were immense & we had just enough quality to score enough points.
Young Walker showing again why it was ridiculous to bench him & i thought Garbutt & Jjb lead the way but to a man our pack were 10/10.
Did anyone get a decent look at Wards KO? Where we were stood it looked like Minichello bumped him off with his elbow.

After losing two players so early through injuries, we can now see why the coach chooses not to play all his subs.
It's so that we can cope in such circumstances.

Quote: tad rhino "would he have got on with wards injury? given the record of non use of subs probably not.
how did golding get on at centre? been working away so didn't even get to listen let alone attend.'"

Cut the guy some slack please. We are in 2nd place with a game to go in the regular season and in the semi final of the Cup with essentially the same squad as last year, with the exception of swopping one good hooker for another (I much prefer Parcell by the way)

So if it was all McDermott's fault last year he at the very least should be getting some praise this season including his use of subs which by and large have worked out ok. He has brought on Walker and the other youngsters slowly which can only be to the lads benefit in the long run and with the odd exception the old guard have not let him down.

like when I said a month ago 95% of what he does he does brilliantly you mean?
at least 7/8 times he has used 3 subs in a game. at widnes where he flogged the players in hot sun in there second game in days.

these are things pull him up on. these are the, in my opinion, the 5% he messes up on.
I call it as I see it. unlike some who have agenda's both ways

I said it was crackers to put two lightweights on the bench against the biggest side in the league. I stand by that.
I also said he probably wouldn't get used. he did but quite possibly only because ward got hurt.
given he never used him v cas and his regular non use of subs this was a fair comment
if that's all you've got then keep trying

Using subs for the sake of using them because they are there is archaic thinking, unsurprising from the dinosaurs on here.

Mcdermott had his data, he knew that 83.2% of injuries against hull occur in the backs due to their powerful islander backline, furthermore he knew that despite a big pack hulls vulnerability has been mobile players with 77% of tries conceded as a result of pace rather than power and quick play the balls. Therefore having walker on the bench was a good move both in terms of tactics and injury contingency.

So it proved a master stroke, as not only did walker have to come on to cover injury, he scored the winning try.

Given Keinhorst and Golding returning from injuries I think Walker would've been used even if Ward hadn't gotten hurt. As it happened both those two returnees had to do the 80 mins because of our depleted bench.

you made some fair points but name calling? I thought you were above that.
and seeing as we put 50 past them at hull with 3 forwards on the bench the statistics don't hold up in that respect.
had another prop been injured early on along with Galloway we could have been in real trouble.
it will be interesting to see the semi final line up to see if he again goes with pace and movement. I fully agree that's how to get at hull but any player at any level, dinosaur or not, will tell you games are won and lost in the forwards. I would be surprised if he didn't go with 3 forwards at Doncaster.

agreed you never know where injuries will strike. we did have moon who could have dropped in.
without trying to score points I think it was a great 2 points but had we lost I think there would have been questions asked.

I have defended the coach over many years against a constant stream of criticism because his record does not deserve the constant sniping. Of course he will make errors because like the rest of us he is human. But overall he has been the most successful coach we have had.

You accuse "some" of having an agenda yet it is you who is the one being critical. I did not know you can have an agenda by defending uncalled for criticism. In you own words you say "95% of what he does he does brilliantly" yet you regularly concentrate on the "5% he messes up on" I would not object to your comments if 95% of your posts about our coach had been positive. So I would say it is you that has an agenda.

You speak of unused subs as though there is some law that says they have to be used. He is the one to know which players can best achieve his game plan and which players present a greater risk. Players carrying niggling injuries or lacking in experience or form on the practice pitch can be affect decision as can events during the game.
