| The Murray team were so bloody hard! I'm unsure which time I enjoyed more. Murray's team knocking the snot out of the opposition (and get told off by the RFL for being too tough), or Smith's lot of 2004 carving teams up seemingly every week with sheer pace and exuberance.

| As the printer remarked lee smiths grand final performance was superb. It's quite remarkable how lee smiths playing career has gone backwards. Don't know what the union game did for him, certainly he was a shadow of the man that went to union when he returned.

| Smith won three succesive GF's, playing in a different position in each one.
Yawnion ruins players. No player has ever come back from that code as good as they left ours.

| The funny thing about the 2009 GF is that under the current rules Saints would probably have won as Kyle Eastmond's disallowed try (due to Sinfield's supberb tackle) in the final few minutes would have been given as hitting the corner flag no longer means you're in touch.

Defo the Murray "nasty" team for me. It was almost like watching old school RL again.

| Keith Senior, Marcus Bai, Ali, McGuire - all on the left of the pitch. The most destructive, creative attacking unit I've ever seen in Leeds colours.

| Dave Furner also, plus an pre knee injury version of Matt Diskin dominating from DH. I loved the couple of years of the Murray era but the 2004 and 2005, and the Saints team of 2006 sides were the best 2 teams of the summer era IMO,

2004? against Hull at Hull when it was 0-0 at half time
1998 - Central Park Godden's try thought the stand was going to collapse'"
Totally agree with all 3 of these. Wasn't the Hull game 2005? First game of season as Champions and a great atmosphere.
The 2007 game at KR was probably Toopi's finest moment in a Leeds shirt he was immense that night, smashed everyhting that moved.
1998 at Wigan was the best atmosphere I can ever remember at a Leeds game not at Headingley. Was that the game Cassidy did Moz?
A couple of others I don't think have been mentioned are the 1997 game at Odsal with Iestyn's hat trick and 2 games v Wigan at Headingley in I think 1994 and 1995, atmosphere in SS was incredible for both.

Would've (should've) still been a no try. As soon as he hits the corner flag then the decision becomes moot but if you look closely now when considering the new rules then you see it's definitely out of touch.
If you watch the real time incident on the DVD of the match and slow motion/freeze frame it as he becomes air born from Sinfield's hit then you'll clearly see his toes touch the ground outside first before the ball is grounded.

The irony. The most foolish quote on here for quite some time.

Shows how the emphasis on team make up has changed - there was only a sprinkling of players who had come through the academy in that side compared to these days

As a direct result of GH's stated aim when he took over the team of recreating the home-grown home-town ethos of Leeds' great teams of the past.
Hard to argue against him having succeeded in his aims.

Maybe so but that pack was well worth watching.
8 Barrie McDermott · 9 Terry Newton · 10 Darren Fleary · 11 Adrian Morley · 12 Anthony Farrell · 13 Marc Glanville
IIRC wasnt it the year before Murray arrived we had appointed Dean Bell as the Acadamey Coach. Murray awoke the sleeping giant that was Leeds with a GF appearance against Wigan and a CC win in 99.
The following year 2000 I think we saw the fruits of that Dean Bell appointment.
