| Quote: Biff Tannen "Whilst im glad he is staying on, I dont see why we had to give him such a long deal.he is 32 and with still a year to run on his current deal we could have waited until late summer and then offered him a rolling one year deal which is what I think should happen for all our players who hit that age range.not all players are capable of rocking on like JP has.'"
He's 32 going on 33 FFS, not in his 70s.
Absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be going strong at JP's age provided he looks after himself properly.

Maybe, and i hope he is.
I would say most players are pretty much finished or well on the slide though and ready for retiring at 33/34 or dropping down a level in standard. Its hard to think of too many players who can still hold their level at 34/35 and i would suggest JJB's best days are long gone.Just my opinion of course.
I await news of Danny Mcguire's 4 year deal in the not too distant future.

| A lot of people forget that he spent a lot of his junior career injured, even when he got into the first team. That alone will have prolonged his career and the other players often mention how he is a machine in training. I once saw him running to training on kirkstall rd near YTV studios at 7.30 in the morning!!!!

| i like him as a player but a 3 year deal at 32, when he had a year left anyway is ridiculous.

Age is over rated, players can play well into there mid to late 30's nowadays, injury and desire permitting. Some youngster may usurp JJB in the first team in next couple of years, but they will have to be a good un.

| age is over rated but RL is a tough sport. not many forwards carry on to mid 30's. no problem with JJb but surely to god one year at a time should be the option

| Steve Menzies still played when he was 39, people think it's great.
JJB still playing at 32 (possibly 35) Leeds are running their club incorrectly.

| i've no problem with him playing at 35,45 or 55 if he merits it. its the length of the deal and the timing i think is wrong

Can easily be turned into a coaching contract (whether it be first team or with the youngsters) though really if need be by form or injuries. A role which always seemed likely.

I know we have had disagreements, but I have never thought anything bad of you mate. To try and put any comparison between JJB and Menzies though is sheer lunacy. JJB at his absolute best was still never half as good as Menzies at his end.

| Quote: Andy Gilder "Nobody can predict what is going to happen this year, let alone next year or the year after. Injuries happen. When Wigan signed Nigel Wright to a long contract following a big transfer fee, who would have thought he would turn out to be a crock?
JJB was already contracted for this year. So he's got a two-year extension. Doesn't mean he's going to see it out. He's a smart enough lad that if his body tells him its time to go before the end of 2016 I have no doubt he'll do it. If he's not cutting the mustard, then Leeds can move him on.
Proclaiming it to be a terrible decision or more evidence of the club being mismanaged is absolute nonsense.'"
Quite right.
Makes good sense to extend JJB's contract as he is one of the better back rowers in SL who has been one of the cornerstones of Leeds's remarkable run of success. A real 100 per no one has emerged yet to take his place.

| The irony of you mentioning "sheer lunacy" re-printers Jjb/Menzies comparison then post that last sentence!
Also just for the record re-Menzies as good as he was and as old as he played till the past 3 years of his time at Manly were spent as a bit part/bench player aswell.
Players like JP ,Menzies are few and far between and do not automatically mean others can play for and be as good as them into their late 30's.
That said i still maintain many of our pack especially the Front row are either too old(Kylie) ,on the slide(Jjb) nowhere near as good as they were(Bailey) or just aren't good enough full stop (Kirke) .
I just dont see the point giving Jjb a 3yr deal (2yr exstension) at this moment in time he's been a great player for us and i still he has plenty to offer but i'd prefer a year at a time approach tbh.

| And if that "year at a time" approach leads to players moving on elsewhere and having three or four good years, you'll be the first whinging about Hetherington and McDermott mismanaging the club.
Sometimes they must wonder why they bother.
