Care to validate this statement with some fact, quote or official link?

Hindsight is a very powerful tool, true. But I made those exact points prior to the signing of Buderus only to be contradicted by a number of posters who were convinced of the positive influence he would have on his understudies.
Just to reiterate, this isn't an anti-Buderus tirade - I was actually very impressed by him as a player.

Yet you still haven't taken into account the fact that Buderus left a year early than planned.

That surely should have been more of a concern for those who stressed the important role in developing young players that he was going to play. I always questioned whether it was nailed on that he'd have a positive effect in that respect.

How do you know it hasn't?

Nobody can possibly know what McShane or Hood would have turned out like without Buderus at the club.

Why should it be?

You don't do A-Levels before doing GCSE, there is a learning curve. If that curve included the missed year, then it would have an effect.

Likewise you cannot blame the teacher if he cannot get all his thick pupils into university if you get what I mean?

I've never bought into the mentoring theory TBH. Giving players a few tips at training is not the same as working with them intensively one-on-one, and is no substitute for playing experience. I'm sure Buderus did what he could to help McShane and Hood, but in the end I doubt it amounted to much. He did after all have a day job.
