| Quote: Sal Paradise "We must agree to differ - 2004 he was correctly MOM he was superb - the other GF wins his impact was no where near as influential and he along with some others benefitted from playing in a good side.
On McShane time will tell, I don't see the rate of improvement I would expect, the fact Buderus is out performing him every game and the gap between their relative performances is widening illustrates this lack of improvement. Whilst I have no truck with McDermott the fact that McShane appears to be falling down the pecking order suggest all is not well. To play hooker you need stamina - I am not sure McShane naturally has this, you also need pace not quick accelaration, McShane doesn't have that either. Talented player ball in hand not sure he has the all round game and physical aptitude to play this role at the top level.'"
Got to disagree with you there Sal. The 2009 GF was on Sky Anytime the other week so I had a watch and Diskin was superb in that game. His try single handedly dragged us back into a game that was slipping away from us.
I have to agree with you on McShane however, don't think he is the answer as a starting hooker in SL. He has had some good games this year from the bench, but generally against the weaker teams. Defensively he doesn't seem strong enough to be starting games. hope to be proved wrong though because his passing / kicking game is very good.

Interesting comment, His defence is much improved from last season which was questionable at times but this season 281 Tackles made & 13 Tackles missed, Danny Buderus 553 Tackles made & 31 Tackles missed.

I would take the Opta missed tackles stats with a pinch of salt, am sure I read someone somewhere questioning their accuracy. I appreciate his defence has improved this year, however I still fell it is some way short of a top SL hooker, particularly when he starts games.

| Many of the Quins fans had the view that if a player crossed Mac they were sidelined and ultimately dispatched. So it wouldn't surprise me if McShane has said something deemed to be out of turn and consequently dropped. In a way it seems to be what happened to Cross and Burgess.

| Didn't read the rest of the thread but if the title is true it's not good news for Leeds.
Anyone thinking McShane and Hood are the ticket to a top 4 finish are at best premature, and at worst deluded.

| Agree I don't think it is good news for Leeds if buderus goes to the knights next year. But if he does leave I hope we keep and play mcshane and hood. Might not bring instant success but certainly 2 with lots of potential

.....but if rumours are true then McShane might be on his way (can't blame him) or he's not really good enough defensively at least (he looked to be going ok to me though, until the coach inexplicably dropped him in favour of Burrow as interchange hooker) ??
Hood is probably still too young to be first choice hooker in 2012.....so despite not so long ago thinking hooker was the least of our problems, it could now ironically be the worst.
The club has moved in a few short seasons from being the most healthy in SL to potentially one of the worst. Warrington here I come

Definately. Our best 3 players in that Final were Sinfield, Burrow and Diskin

It seems a player exchange may be moving forward!
I would take Junior Sau from the Knights but would they release him? Newcastle are also looking at players with other clubs. Anyideas?
Knights search for Buderus replacement

Knights need replacement
Newcastle Knights officials have been working behind the scenes to broker a player trade with Leeds Rhinos that would allow them to re-sign former skipper Danny Buderus without paying a transfer fee.
Buderus, the veteran hooker who played in 220 first-grade games for Newcastle, wants to return for an NRL swansong under incoming coach Wayne Bennett but is contracted to Leeds for one more year.
There has been speculation Leeds were demanding a transfer fee of up to $150,000 to release the 33-year-old, but Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said yesterday that the Rhinos’ priority was to secure a replacement player of similar stature to Buderus.
Gidley said that player might not come from within the Knights and did not necessarily have to be a hooker.
‘‘Their preference is to get a player to take Danny’s spot, so at the moment we’re exhausting all avenues,’’ Gidley said.
Buderus has a promising understudy at Leeds, 21-year-old Paul McShane, who has played in 29 Super League games and is contracted to the Rhinos until 2013.
McShane is regarded as Buderus’s heir apparent at Leeds and Gidley said the Rhinos had indicated it was not essential to replace the former NSW and Kangaroos skipper with another dummy-half.
‘‘I spoke to Bedsy last night, and he said a hooker would be great, but they’re just after an experienced player who has got some genuine NRL experience,’’ Gidley said.
Newcastle have asked two contracted players, Antonio Kaufusi and Constantine Mika, to find new clubs next season, but Gidley said it was unlikely any Knights would move to Headingley.
Buderus has made it obvious he wants to return to Newcastle but does not want to leave Leeds on bad terms.
He has enjoyed three happy years with the club and would prefer to leave on a good note.
Transfer fees are virtually non-existent between NRL clubs but are standard practice in England.
Canterbury paid an estimated $100,000 a year ago so Leeds would release Kiwi forward Greg Eastwood.
But it is obvious the Knights would prefer not to do likewise if they can avoid it.
