This I agree with.

That night displayed the difference there was between being the best player in SL in 2004 (whoever it was) and being the best player in the world. Lockyer's first half was one of the best displays I've ever seen live and in person. Pity the 2nd half petered out once Australia took their foot off the gas really.

Or, maybe the best player in SL languished on the bench whilst the international coach selected his club stand off, undeservedly.

I agree with G on this but will add i thought it was great to be there at ER and watch the likes of Lockyer and co put on an international master-class!!

I thought McGuire deserved selection for GB that autumn, but do you really believe he would have made any material difference to what happened at Elland Road that night?

He still played plenty of minutes (not that anyone would have noticed) and made not a jot of difference.

Don't think they will be too bothered about not winning individual awards, when you look at the trophys they have won as a team.

Indeed, as my ramblings may have mentioned at some point - 9 years of captaincy, now leading his team to its 7th grand final - how Sinny has never won MoS (or even been nominated) is shocking

Brian Mac came up with a good one last night in the post match interview.May be the squad can be the first recipients of the "balls of steel" award.

It would be an insult to award Sir Kev with an award made only of 'steel'

He, and the rest of the team, much prefer collecting gold & silver trophies & rings

Conversely, Tomkins may 'Man of Steel' award. A great individual in a team that wins nothing!

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but surely these kinds of awards should be done after the season has finished.
The man of steel should be determined on how well the players cope with the playoff format as well as the regular season.
Think Leeds would have a lot more nominations too if this was the case.

Not really but that's not the point. Nobody would have made any difference from the pool of players available for selection but picking the best players at least increases your chances.
