| Quote: LeedsPokerGuru "time delays at the tv relay stations. He has no control over the BBC's time delay but he could well do over channel 4's.
"I can't show you whats on the bbc now...... waffle waffle waffle.... sync channel 4's signal with bbc 1's... yes ok I can now show you whats on BBC1"'"
Apparently, this has been ruled out on a few TV industry type boards and they were saying that they expected the delay to be slightly longer (about a second) than it was and were speculating that the BBC gave C4 a direct feed and C4 were not picking it up of the normal digital signal like we all do at home! As such, the theory there is that the BBC/Camelot were in on the trick and that it was not a live broadcast of a live event but a delayed broadcast of live event in the BBC studio!

It still bugs me that he used the words, can't show the numbers until after the draw as the BBC have the legal right to be first to broadcast the lottery result! He chooses his words very, very carefully (although he often appears not to) and this careful choice of words and suggestion is how many of his tricks are performed, so using the word result, instead of prediction is interesting. It might be balls (no pun again) but still interesting.
I do think it was either option 3 of fixing the balls in the machine, some very simple delay issue (does live mean live etc) or as you say some other trick we have not thought of... however, I do not think it was a camera trick or a technology based trick.
So option 3 is still the favourite for me.'"
But he was in the shot with the prediction balls throughout the draw so it would have to be delayed a long time if it didn't included any camera tricks while the numbers were put on the prediction balls.

Yes, sorry again, they are saying that the draw was filmed live in a studio at the BBC just before Derren Brown went on air on C4 and that is how he knew the numbers. There were even saying the the first C4 bit, was pre-recorded and when they switched back from the camera at the back of the studio to the final camera shot that then stayed on Derren and the numbers that is the first time when Derren actually went live on C4 meaning that the delay was possibly less than a minute.

| Hmmm, I don't buy this whole... it was a camera trick solution! It is of course some sort of deception or trick but I really don't think it would be 'technical' trick which after all just involves very clever camera type people! Don't but it, solution 3 is still the best explanation for me!

Camelot make hundreds of millions from running the lottery. Anybody caught fiddling a lottery machine is going to prison for a few years.
Derren Brown's a brilliant guy and has fantastic mind and persuasion tricks, but he ain't gonna persuade anyone to risk jail for him to do a trick.

How was it anything but a camera trick?

But who got caught and if you did/do get caught who gained from the trick? Derren makes enough money and he did not buy a ticket (didn't it end up being a roll-over as know one won the jackpot?), so he did not directly gain financially!
You say they could go to prison but it would be very difficult to prosecute anyone for fraud because one did not take place did it? So what could they prosecute him/his accomplice for exactly? Possibly trespass, maybe sack the accomplice (if they did work for the BBC) for gross misconduct but after that I am struggling to find a criminal offence he may of may not be guilty of? It could be that the law talks about fixing games of chance but I bet it says something like, for personal finance gain in the law... if you didn't are you just guilty of a misdemeanour if any offence at all?

I don't think this is not a viable solution (it very clearly is), I am not sure it is the actual solution. If it is I would expect him to maybe come out and say that is how he did it at the end of this current run of shows and it was all about the publicity. He continually states he does not use camera tricks, everything else you can think of yes, but not camera tricks so that is my main objection to it being the likely solution.

I dunno. Interfering in events where people gamble on the outcome is illegal is it not? People enter the lottery on the premise that the outcome is a randomly generated event. If that is tampered with then the outcome is no longer randomly generated, hence all the people who bought a ticket no longer got the event on which they gambled. I would be surprised if there is no law covering that. It's not an aspect of the law I know anything about mind you, but I reckon that would be illegal.
I also reckon camera trickery is the likely answer.

Good point about the random outcome and the law! I ask because I really don't know, but he did say that he had done nothing illegal so that is what got me thinking about it?
I hope it is not a camera trick (and don't think it was) because he would loose all credibility with me and I think if it was and it did get out, it would destroy much of his reputation.
