| Sad about this but it had an air of inevitability about it, and probably for the best in the end.
We have to manage the cap and quota, and with the young players at the club it's important we don't block pathways too.
I suspect he wasn't as good a trainer as the club expects, and with his injuries he's just not been on the park enough either. There's a cultural thing in there about having a whole squad that trains hard and is totally dedicated.
I enjoy watching him play and I wish him all the best.

| Quote: christopher "They do seem to think Woolf is suddenly going to turn him into a fit leaner Second rower, I like Hurrell but I really can’t see that happening.
He’ll have s barnstorming few months for them then injuries/errors will creep back in'"
And if that happens, he doesnt make the world cup - there are pros and cons to having an international coach at your club, he has the carrot of bringing out performances for internationals, with the risk of making signings that might not work out ...
I am actually very relaxed about Hurrell (unlike most Saints fans, though they love melodrama). Hes not an automatic first choice for us, and a bit of a luxury risk we can afford to take as we have two youngsters in our spine next year. Either we can get him fitter (I watched some old NRL videos since its been rumoured and the difference is shocking) or he will soon be loosing out to Batchelor, Wingfield or Forster, which isnt a bad position to be in. Similarly, if Hopoate doesnt perform Hurrell/ Simm can be threatening his position. We really need a line breaker as we dont really have one this year (all our second rows are too similar) and Hurrell. might fit the bill. For him to get into Woolfs team hes really going to need to sort his defence, but Saints fans have complained about us being too defence orientated anyway!
The more interesting news for me is it indicates that our other signings have been completed (as I knew the order they were planning to complete them), which will be very exciting for us if they come off.
I would be really interested to know the contracts of Bentley at Leeds and Hurrell at Saints relative to each other!

Good luck to him. Despite the flaws in his game he did bring some excitement back to watching a Leeds team that had become extremely drab.

| He's been a fun player to watch, a proper highlights player, but the times right for him to leave imo. He's 30 now and the errors and defensive reads arnt going to be corrected at this stage of his career, the fitness is probably only going to go one way aswel.
He can cause some damage still and i think with what St helens have in place with there structures, he'l be a better signing for them than he would of been a resigning for us.
Good luck to him

| Gutted. Haven't seen the best of him this year. Fully expect him to be in dream team playing for saints. That said agar must be happy he has the squad for next year forward or we would have offered more in sure

| He had his flaws but I did love watching Hurrell play for us especially 2019 when he carried our attack at times. However I do think this is a good move for the club we all know Hurrell is rocks & diamonds and we have plenty of talent in the centres for 2022 & hopefully beyond wish him well but hope he has shockers against us next year ahaha.

| Everyone wins really, hurrell get's a more suitable deal for this stage of his career, saints will be able to get more out of him as a strike player due to the make up of their squad, and with the players we have and the dynamic of cap and quota it works out better for us overall.

| Can’t understand any hate towards Hurrell - most seem reasonable about it but…. He came to us when we were a basket case really. His Mum died and he’s had COVID to deal with whilst at Leeds. Plus a fair share of injury.
He has had his defensive lapses and errors but also been a nightmare for opposition defences to handle, and great entertainment value.
This is probably the right move for all parties but I’m sad we never really saw the best of him or he of us.

| Quote: The Ghost of '99 "Sutcliffe gets the number 4 shirt.
If Hurrell stayed it always had to be on Leeds terms, given the club are comfortable with Sutcliffe and Newman as their first choice centre pairing going forward (pending development of Broadbent of course). Unfortunately that meant the offer was one year and not so much money. Saints could beat us on length and deal so it's no surprise he's taken their offer, despite the potential family upheaval it brings.
Whether he will enjoy playing there in a somewhat weakened Saints team next year remains to be seen; certainly it doesn't appear he's getting the reception from their fans he has had at Leeds, for all his faults.'"
Agreed Sutcliffe and Newman are our 2022 centres with Broadbent next in line.
Hurrell and Vuniyayawa leaving should free up plenty of salary cap space for a prop and a quota spot too.

| Sorry to see him leave despite his faults.
What we will miss apart from his barnstorming runs is how he attracts 3 sometimes 4 defenders leaving space that we should be exposing.
Not sure Newman or Sutcliffe will offer us that.
With us losing him and King nothing less than a flipping good NRL prop or Thompson will do.

| Thompson isn't a viable proposition for any UK club at this point. Leeds would need to flip one of the existing marquee players to fully in the cap to get him, even assuming he wants to come back to the UK.
His full salary demands, putting aside whatever the Dogs contribute, is probably double or more anything Hetherington has ever paid to one player.

| I can't see us recruiting in the back line. Gale, Sezer and Austin - don't know if we will keep McLelland - is enough in the halves, plus cannot see Handley or T Briscoe getting replaced next year. With Tindall and Broadbent giving cover, probably time to let L Briscoe move on.
Centres we have out of our ears even without Hurrell, although they are all a little underdone apart from Sutcliffe, who I still don't think is good enough but hey. Again can't see movement here though.
We don't need any other back rowers even if Martin leaves, and we have Leeming, Johnson (hopefully still) and Dwyer at hooker.
Prop is the only position, with King going, that we don't have depth in - and whereas we have a couple of decent Academy prospects I don't think we've any more Holroyds waiting to come in. A big horrible thing to partner Holroyd and Mik, with Tet and Prior as the senior figures, for me makes sense.
We would then have decent cover in every position, and if we get a biblical injury crisis again we go to Academy players. Done. 1 more prop is all we need then.
