It is us that are the underdogs.'"
I don't think either team are the underdogs, think it's fairly 50/50. Much has been made on here asking/suggesting that this Leeds team might not be able to win the big ones anymore. Which I agree is a valid question that we'll only see answered AT THE END of the season even if some have already decided the answer is no.
On the other hand even though some have pointed to Warrington's dominance in this competition in recent years as a main reason as to why they're favourites a question hangs over this current Wire team for me. Can they/Are they able to repeat it without Briers, Hodgson (the MOM's in the two finals vs us) as well as former captain Morley and starting prop Carvell? The Warrington line-up on Saturday will have a noticeable difference to the one which last lifted them a trophy.
Think in all the concentration on Leeds fortunes of late some haven't taken too close a look at Wire. They're missing very key men from their past successes. They went a good run of wins of late, but mostly made up of the bottom 6. For all the talk of how Leeds' defence has declined recently, since the start of July we've conceded 84 points compared to Warrington's 122. Whilst they got back on the horse against Catalans it came off the back of two losses where they shipped 34 points on average. People might complain about our sub prop options but if you've visited the Wire board this year then you'll see they hold Asotasi in a similar vain as Kirke on here.
