They're his employers.. He was undertaking his paid role. He's representing them when he speaks to the media.
It struck me as classless to attack Koukash that way. We're Leeds, we're not Wigan. We're better than that.
Are we all content, btw, that McDermott was in possession of the full set of facts when he launched voiced his opinion? Had he discussed it with Koukash beforehand to get his version of events? If he had, why the hell had he?

And if it painted Leeds in a bad light or negatively then it's a problem, it didn't. I also doubt GH view of Koukash varies from McDermott's and that he'll have had a problem with it.

If you just view it as an attack on an individual then maybe (Koukash should view it as advice rather than an attack but I doubt it). Under the radar is that he also defended everyone else at the Salford club. I'd say pointing out the good characters of men he knows is actually a classy thing to do.

What facts did McDermott reveal exactly that need checking?

| Quote: Andy Gilder "You were doing reasonably well up to that point.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the RFL. Why should it? Explain to me exactly how it is "bringing the game into disrepute".
It's someone within the game expressing an opinion on something else within the game. If you're not allowed to do that, then you may as well ban current players and coaches from going on things like the Super League Show, because they won't be able to say anything negative.
I would suspect some people on this thread are allowing their own antipathy towards McDermott as a coach and a person to cloud their judgement on this issue and turning it into another excuse to have a dig.'"
Wow bear that last paragraph in mind Mr Gilder whenever there is a discussion about club v country!! kettle and pot come to mind?
I agree with Gareth he has every right to say what he thinks - but if he gives it he has to be able to take it something he quite clearly cannot. When Leeds exited the play offs week one there was no holding his hand up, if Leeds don't win anything this season he will not be to blame - he never is.

I doubt GH would air such views publicly, even if he holds them.
The Salford players could have shown some character themselves on the pitch. If they felt any better for the kind words from the coach of the opposition team that has just given them an embarrassing hiding then they lack any real character.
I've no idea about the issues happening day to day at Salford. Then again, neither does McDermott. He may hear the perspective from some players he is connected with but I doubt he has the full picture.

But again he didn't reveal any facts now did he? He talked about the way Koukash handles and expresses himself.....that's clear to see for all of us without being in the Salford dressing room. Watching him constantly swearing throughout a 45 minute press conference just last match is embarrassing for the sport for an owner to do.

So what? Ive already said I agree with McDemermott (who himself has given a few cringeworthy interviews he should be embarrassed about).
There's nothing for Leeds to gain from McDermott's comments so I'd rather he kept them to himself.
And it's not hard to imagine a negative from this. What of Leeds want top sign Theo Fages, Naill Evalds or some other promising young player. You think Koukash will be in a rush to do business?

| Quote: ThePrinter "Why does everything he talks about need to be a positive, benefit or help to Leeds?
I could understand if what he said could turn out to be a negative or harm the club, but this won't, it won't effect the Leeds club at all.....all it'll do it make the Doctor sulk, hardly a worry.
I see guys on the SLS or studio guests at live matches (Peacock in particular) every week discussing other clubs. The opinions they give are of no benefit to their club so should we cry foul of them appearing?'" Because he is paid to be the head coach of leeds, not arbiter of the quality of ownership for super league clubs.
The leeds club, don't need a view of Salford, whether it comes from GH or McDermott or anyone else. They are charged with running Leeds Rhinos and doing what is best for Leeds Rhinos, neither are they in a position to, nor is it their place to publicly denigrate another clubs ownership.
If McDermott wants to take responsibility for Salfords players and position he can hand his resignation to GH and his CV to Dr Koukash, sniping from the sidelines is not his job.
And Regardless of his true thoughts and feelings for Dr Koukash, the right thing to do is to show him professional courtesy in public, even if you express your views strongly in private.

We aren't exactly known for throwing transfer fees at players still under contract. If a player is OOC at the end of the season and wants to join Leeds then what can the Doctor do?

I was merely giving you a potential scenario of a negative outcome. I'm not going to debate the minutia of a theory with you.
I can't put it any better than Somkey has just so I'll simply quote and leave it at that.....

| I'd have no problem with McDermott airing honest opinions about all and sundry if he did the same about those from his own club. But unless he is going to go down that route - and I'm not saying he should - then probably best if he kept it bland.

| BMD certainly threw the kitchen sink at Dr K. Agree or not, it was an interesting press conference.

So who in the Leeds set-up has carried on in the same way as Dr Koukash?

No-one, as far as I know. Must admit I'm struggling to see the relevance of the question.

| I personally don't think he should have talked about the owner. Fine to talk about Salford seeming to have off-field issues but I really don't think its his place to talk about Koukash in that way at all.
