As Mandy Rice Davies may have said - well he would say that wouldn't he.
In my view Wigan's current improvement since the arrival of their new coach is genuienly bad for rugby league in general and
Superleague in particular. If they do win anything (other than the hubcap) then I envisage rule or refereeing guidelines changing over the summer.

Wigan have been the best attacking team so far this year, what makes you think we can't 'take it up a notch'?
'"
Being the best attacking [iteam[/i doesn't always mean you have the game breakers to come up with the big plays in the crucial games that matter. In FE and grand finals both teams often cancel each other out and it comes down to the gamebreakers.

| Quote: Exeter Rhino "Cast your mind back to 2004. Leeds topped SL by a record number of points (?10 I believe), yet Bradford convincingly beat us at home in the first play-off, and we only narrowly beat them in the GF.
I think this is a pertinent analogy to Wigan at present. Back then Leeds had been knocking around the top 4 for a few seasons but had never really made a serious dent in the play-offs (1998 aside). You are placing far too much onus on league performance as a guide to what happens in the play-offs. Based on 2004 SL season Leeds should have walked the play-offs but didn't - because they are a completely different competition.'"
Finally, someone said it
Odemwingie - Heres some advice. You keep going on about wigans attacking record. But that doesn't mean you'll be able to score points when it matters. In fact your first test this season of having to do that, you didn't score a try and went out of the CC. Take it from us, we know. Leeds were the best attacking team by far in 04, yet the grand final could have gone either way if you watch through the game again. In 05 we were the best attacking team and won f*ck all.
Just because you consistently attack well as a team and put points on the wakefields, celtics, salfords doesn't mean you have the players to score the points in a tight game.

| You're forgetting, not only are they the best attacking team they're also the best defensive team, have the best goalkicker, the tastiest pies, the nicest toilets and the prettiest cheerleaders.
They're nailed on to win the Grand Final.
It's quite funny actually, normally all the enthusiasm has been beaten out of Wigan fans by this point in the season. Be interesting to see how long they can sustain it for.

but I don't understand how you can say a team which has finished 3rd for the last 3 seasons, has one of the deepest squads around, and is now top of the league 4 points clear and 6 or more points clear of last years finalists is - 'not there just yet'
I can't see where you get that from. '"
Because it's the 16th June. Where we all are now doesn't mean anything. Don't go counting chickens about League leaderships just yet either. You've to come to Headingley in the league and I believe you also have Saints and Wire again? Of course, you're favourites to finish top but I'd suggest you look at Leeds forum up to June in the 2005 season, their lead in the league table and what happened next. A lot could yet happen in this season.
Leeds have blown similar leads atop the table at this stage and won Grand finals, as have Saints.
The thing I have learned, and i suspect most leeds and Saints fans have learned, over the last three years is that the form your team takes into September and October is more important than anything else at all. including league position. Catalan found a run of form and very nearly made the GF from 8th. Leeds have a stated goal of peaking late season every year and do it to perfection.
That is also part of the reason why I don't really see Wigan as as big a threat as Saints. I won't argue that Wigan have been the form team. As I know from watching Leeds these last three seasons it's very, very difficult to maintain that form from beginning to end and i suspect, just my own opinion, that you may have peaked too early.
As you say, we will see soon enough and I look forward to it all unfolding.

Yes we do but Wire have to come to Wigan as do Saints.
Saints have Wigan , Wire and yourselves all away.
You have home ties v Saints and Wigan but have to go to Wire.
We have to go to Hull, I'm not sure about the rest of their fixtures though, I know they've beaten Saints twice and yourselves at Headingley?
As you say a long way to go but I suspect we'll have a much better idea in about five weeks time.

| Leeds' biggest threat doesn't come from any other club.
It's themselves.
