The atkins situation is similar to gleeson. He was a big fish in a small pond at hudds, but then when he signed for decent team he came on no end. Obv when he went to warrington he wasnt as good and at wigan, he looks just like an everyday centre, but at Saints he was immense.

Maybe the same can happen to Atkins if he signs for Leeds

Atkins' defence was very poor tonight.

As a Wakey fan I have to agree, Senior made the key plays when it mattered and thats what makes him still one of the best centres in the league.

The stats on Sky are also interesting when comparing the them, Senior had made 8 try scoring passes not including the ones he did tonight and Atkins has none!!

Based on his display tonight (despite Eddie bigging him up the entire match) it was a no-contest between him and Sir Keith. Not the guy for us I think based on that display.

Whilst i totally agree "uncle" keith destroyed the young pretender tonight lets not forget he was thrown in at the deep end on the right side of defence when he's a left side centre and is still only 23 with plenty to learn.
I think writing his career off as a potential leeds signing is a bit harsh.

Didnt have the best game tonight, but he was playing on "his" wrong side of the field, anyone thats played centre will tell you its alot different. therefore didnt know his winger, 2nd row and tbf seniors not a bad player

You are right, it's difficult to adjust passing a different way also. Especially if he's right handed trying to pass to the right. It's easier for right handed players to pass left and vice versa.

I accept we wouldn't have seen the best of him if he is playing on his wrong side. Thats fair enough. He was clearly moved there to nulify the attacking threat of Senior, not to do damage down our left hand side with his attacking ability.

Which leads me onto my next question, as I don't see much of Atkins.

Is he meant to be a good defender?

Because surely that wasn't affected by him moving sides. He was shown up on a number of occasions, even though Keith is a legend. However Sam Obst managed to bring Senior down a couple of times...

According to most stats, and last night, he doesn't pass whatever side of the field he's on. Lee Smith was far better - in defence and attack. On that display we should be looking to sign a guy from Wasps at the end of next year, not Atkins.

His one "offload" of the night was a fumble in the tackle which went 3 yards forward and was missed by the "officials". I'm sure if a try had been scored that Mr Silverwood would have spotted the knock on - he's really good at spotting knock on's...oh hange on?.
