I'm willing to step into the void if there is a problem.

Would be interesting to see what it would do to crowd figures at certain clubs like Salford. If they got somebody like those guys and still were hovering around 5/6k it really would be a kick in the teeth to Koukash.
Personally I don't think we'll see much in the way of big names moving here under this rule for the 2016 season as I think most big names will surely have their futures for next season sorted already. How many big names are OOC come season end? Because whilst you can now pay them more, can you afford the transfer fee it would cost to sign them if they're still under contract. Looking until maybe 2017 for possibly the first few significant ones imo.
.....................
Actually, just looking at the salaries some of the top guys apparently make in the NRL then I don't really see any coming in their prime, maybe the odd few when they've got a year or two left in them. If clubs want to throw big money around like a salary of £400k to one guy, he could easily do better/get more in the NRL if he's really a top player (plus the desire to play international and origin over there). Think you'd have to go north of £500k to get some over here and that would be daft, but could see Koukash doing that. For us it seems a tool to keep players rather than attract them. Problem is again, if other clubs still find genuine NRL quality too expensive then they'll come sniffing for the brightest SL talent.

| Quote: tad rhino " all players brought through the system since 15 should only have 50% of their salary counted on the cap. this would encourage youth development and stop clubs forever going over sea's'"
I agree with this 100% Tad
I also think that this rule would also be a beneficial step forward for the international game as we in SL would certainly produce more players in our competition that were eligible to represent England/Great Britain as the percentage of home grown players rose as opposed to the ratio we have had to contend with in recent years
I think that GH has been pretty smart with his stance on the Marquee vote as he never stated that the Rhinos would actually go down that road despite voting the rule in
Gawwy has certainly dangled the carrot to any club (Salford} that believes that signing "One Special player" and one who will be on such a vastly inflated salary and will take a very high percentage of the allowed cap space across the clubs whole 25 man squad that it will enhance that clubs chances of being able to realistically have a chance of winning one of the major trophies on offer
IF the cap works as expected then its a case of how you like your toast buttering and Gawwy certainly likes to spread his thinly across the slice rather than put one dollop on one corner

| Quote: Sherbert Dip "I certainly don't think GH voted on the rule to blow a chunk of money on one player.
He knows what he's doing.
I think he'll use the ruling to spread the salary cap more
The way I read it, if Rhinos are spending £1.8 million, and for example, 200K is going to Hall, GH can declare Hall as Marque player on 100K, and that allows the 100K difference to be shared out? Am I correct?
Cashcow on the other hand will blow 400K on one player, although lets wait and see if he was all hot air, or really does want to blow a big chunk of cash on a top player to play in the Middle 8's'"
That's basically how it works, and that's how we'll use it no doubt. If we signed someone from the NRL on a marquee player salary, the amount that counted against the salary cap would already be 25K more than the salary of any player in the Leeds squad.
Koukash however will go headline grabbing and get it all wrong again.

| Can't see us using it to bring a big name in. Hope I am wrong as I think we need some fresh blood.

| I don't think we will use it on an import, and there probably is some space needed for upgrades of existing contracts, but right now, we have the marquee option bringing one of our big earners cap hit down, we have two big names, who whilst they wont be at the peak of their earnings, wont be cheap in Peacock and Sinfield coming off along with Kylie. Burrow has signed a new contract and I would be astounded if he hasn't taken a significant pay cut.
I would be surprised if we didn't have a fair bit of cap space available. We might not see a huge name, but I think we might see one or two decent names coming in.

Australian papers reporting leeds' interest in Cronk. Wrongly informing the figures of the marquee player rule though.
Even if GH is interested I can't see this happening. Unless, as there's no internationals for Aus this summer, Cronk has been told Australia national team need a shake up and it's time for Daley Cherry-Evens. He might be tempted by a longer contract in SL.

| If we are after a half back James Maloney would fit the bill and is more realistic, he's off contract and not signed up. He is exactly the type of player the marquee rule will attract. On the fringes of Origin, not an international but a gun player.

Indeed and a champion bloke with a wife, fits the Rhinos mould. He would be 29 at the start of next season so defo 3 good years in him maybe more.
He would be a coup for any super league club.

Totally agree with you. Interestingly a few days ago there was an interview in SMH with his manager who said he was considering 4 options, one of which was SL?

I agree but cannot see us signing either to be fair.
What happens to Sutcliffe if we sign a big name NRL halfback?
