There was an interview with Brian Mc on Yorkshire Radio before the match. He was asked whether he thought Huddersfield had improved over the season. He said that he hadn't seen too much of Huddersfield this year.

If a head coach is not watching the easily available videos of every game the opposition plays, seeing patterns, pinpointing weaknesses, working out how your team can play to optimum to exploit them, then one struggles to figure out what he does with half his week.

Well he will have some time padded out as he's going to have to put the t's down now.

Regardless of whose specific task it is, it's still up to the head coach to ensure it's being done ... and properly.
That's why you have a head coach.

Some of his team selections might suggest he doesn't pay much attention to how his own team perform either.

Sometimes watching videos isn't going to solve your problems.

Huddersfield, like Wigan, play in a pretty structured way. You pretty much know what the plan is with Huddersfield - massive pack win collisions, Lunt and/or Robinson snipe round the ruck when your markers don't get up in time, big, powerful outside backs exploit fringes where defence gets sucked in dealing with massive pack, Brough kicks deep when those bits don't get them up field.

It's not identifying it that's the problem, it's stopping it.

Pretty much every player you ever see interviewed says the same thing about Wigan. You know what's coming, but knowing about it and stopping it are too very different things.

Well, if McD actually did say that he hadn't watched Huddersfield play, I'd be a bit concerned.

But he didn't say that. He said he hadn't seen much of Huddersfield. We've played Huddersfield 3 times this season, I can't imagine the video previews go much further back than 3 or 4 rounds prior to the game itself and as its Chris Plume putting the previews together then presumably McDermott will only have seen selected highlights of 10 or so of Huddersfield's games.
I'm not sure that's enough to judge whether Huddersfield have improved over the season or not.
