| We'll see, if they take this reprieve to really get their house in order for 2021.
I have bigger concerns about the clubs in the lower tiers. Unless they get a decent share of the government bailout they could be in serious trouble.

| Something is seriously wrong with a sport whereby teams are better off furloughing their staff than continuing to play

| Unprecedented times Sal unfortunately. Many businesses are in the same boat and only the full financial ruin will be seen when furlough is over.
So many businesses are being run on debt and have no cash in the bank whatsoever. RL is certainly no different.

I agree - but something is wrong when clubs use the ST monies to see them through the winter they should be building up reserves during the season to see them through the Winter - robbing Peter to pay Paul. Then have to emotionally blackmail their customers not to ask for a refund

| TWP get no share of the Sky TV deal and cannot play any games at home this season ,so in reality what were we expecting to happen . If they play games their costs increase but their revenue is still nothing or minimal . Whether they should have done better in obtaining a TV deal themselves is another matter , but if Argyle is paying the wages for this season (not a fact I know either way) then at least the players are OK .
I do not know if Canada had a furlough scheme , maybe others know this, but our clubs have been using this even to the extent of not paying academy players their wages , which in most cases isn't exactly a lot .
Next season most clubs are not going to pay their current 2nd year academy players (unless they have a first team contract) and so expecting them to play for free on amateur terms .
The timing seems very much a case of they realised P&R was being scrapped , but maybe there was a clue with Liam Kay signing for Wakey .
There is talk of the Championship clubs and League 1 clubs having a "meaningful competition" this autumn , whatever that means . But if so they could potentially have fans back in the grounds to make this worthwhile .

| Quote: Sir Kevin Sinfield "You do know the Lamport Stadium in Toronto was regularly getting 8000 for Championship games?
It did take off in Toronto Canada. Our sport has just looked a gift horse in the mouth.
Sadly our small time backward thinking clubs didn’t want Toronto in Super League as they were worried they’d take their place. They were denied a share of the tv money and obstacles put in their way. Instead we will have Wakefield, Featherstone, Leigh. The sports going nowhere.'"
Look, no offence or anything but so what?
8000 people turned up for some games. Even if they were all paying full price (highly doubt that was the case) that will not and never will generate enough income to fund a team on the other side of the Atlantic given their extended cost base. That's before you even get into the contracts some of the players are on.
I agree the sport is going nowhere and has been for years but a club in Canada is not going to change that.
TWP have dropped out of SL under the guise of Covid-19 and certainly that has created a number of issues. There are clearly bigger issues though. Players were not getting paid on time before Covid-19. They had spaffed their cash on a core of players and then struggled to scrape a team together when they had a few injuries. Even with their highly paid stars they were bottom of SL and shiiite.
Now they are moaning about having to sort visas, something that is their responsibility. They are complaining about the impact on their sponsors - everyone is in the same boat.
I am pro expansion if it can be done but TWP are not showing themselves as a shining beacon of how to do this. I agree that the RFL must also shoulder some of the blame for letting it get to this point, for example, why were they allowed to sign or be in advanced discussions with new players when they were obviously so f ucked.

| Unfortunately we are now in this position where decisions have to be made, when TWP joined the RFL they joined with an all singing, all dancing proposal that majority of people thought good news Rugby league is starting to go places, expanding the system was part of the plan , the RFL was talking about more teams joining from North America. It seems all the planning was built on a bed of sand. This is not only to do with Coronavirus. The demands put on TWP suggest it would never work long time. Stories about players not being paid or paid late, TWP to to pay for the flights of other teams to Canada etc. They could not benefit from SKY money, due to the weather they could not have any home matches until May, spending silly money on so called stars SBW among others, they wanted to be outside of the cap. It was never going to work, the team was rubbish, and led by a coach who said the only way SL would survive would be to expand into North America. Look, who they signed for next year, KW plus possible SW and Myler, R H was also mentioned, the team is becoming a Christmas shopping list. Maybe the directors of the teams in SL are not as daft as we think, maybe they saw it wouldn’t work long term. What do they do, they walk away this season saying they will be OK for next season.
It’s great, simply walk away, no relegation or promotion, no repercussions, they cannot fulfil their fixtures, what happens next season if he cannot afford the players wages etc, will he walk away and say we will join SL the season after next. Whatever happens SL and the RFL should say you must complete your games this year if not they will be repercussions. Simply allowing them to walk away will show what a laughing stock SL has become. Rightly or wrongly this should not be allowed to happen. What makes it worse and is unacceptable is the signing of players for next year and they were talking about who they were signing for next season and they ain’t got two Pennines to scratch their s .
If SL do nothing there is no comeback on other teams simply to walk away until next season. Simply do nothing and Rugby will start to die in the next few years, I understand Sky are already furious at this decision and rightly so. The RFL and SL have now have a excuse for a blank canvas to make the changes that we need so SL and rugby in general can start to grow,

| I'm all for expansion but I don't see how a transatlantic team will help. Sure raise the awareness and maybe get a real North American league going but how does that help the game in the UK. Short answer is that it doesn't. If it was going to be a big advantage to the game why are the Aussie clubs not involved and supporting it too, they are far wealthier than their British counterparts.
I don't see how they can say they are not going to fulfil their obligations this year and hope to be involved next year without any penalty. Just because there is no relegation doesn't mean that they can't be demoted. They've royally shafted the super league with their late withdrawal and shouldn't be allowed to get off with it Scott free.
Rant over

| Should Toronto's punishment be any different to all the Chsmpionship and League 1 teams?
People do realise there is 26 professional clubs not fulfilling fixtures and not just 1?
