It's a lot more than just picking someone who is a free agent though.
We may have spoken to brown and he didn't want to come, wanted too much money, had other plans. We don't know.
What we know is we have signed Evans and he is getting slammed before he has even had a training session.

| If the lad has pace, that is something the squad lacks and could be valuable at times.
Key thing here is that it's a loan deal, to provide short-term cover while our academy lads develop and we see how T Briscoe pulls up after his nasty injury.
Most of our Academy backs are centre-paced rather than winger-paced. The ones that are quick lack physicality.
Also if we are allowing some forwards out on loan to Bradford, I would say the smoke signals here look like a bigger-name pack signing from NRL is on its way.
We also have a very young squad and Sinfield likes senior players with a professional attitude to set the tone for them, maybe Evans fits that bill too.
I don't think this loan signing has very much impact on Leeds for 2020 either way - it's the next signing which will be important once we free up this quota spot.

Totally agree Jim and reflects a lot of the other sensible views on here.

icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg |

| Quote: The Biffs Back "Perhaps I'm thinking outside of the box here guys????
"IF" these 4 Junior Rhinos players are actually going to the Bulls on a season's long loan deal and we are signing Evans on a season's long loan deal then It could actually be a way of freeing up some salary cap for us?
I'm sure that any players loaned from a SL club to a Championship club will thus have their salaries excluded from their parent clubs salary cap for the duration of that loan period?
Hypothetically speaking here but if these 4 junior Rhinos salary capped values added up to £80,000 then that would not count on our cap for 2020,so we would only have to offset this cost by adding Evan's contract value for his loan period with us would we not?
We would also have the benefit of having these 4 players playing at a far higher standard than either Academy or A team footy'"
The downside is they spend a year out of the Leeds coaching regime and the cohesive team spirit you are trying to engender at a critical time in their development and you send them to a coach who idea of coaching was binned years ago. Kear is a very negative coach i.e. he coaches not to lose not coaches to win its a very different mind set. He had the biggest most expensive squad in the Championship last year but couldn't even get in the playoffs - I fail to see how sending players to Bradford in going to benefit them - unless of course you want lessons in punching an opponent in the nuts

| Quote: Betsy Bulls "Cheers. Just throwing a question in here regarding your debate about whether your youth is ready to step up. We now have 1 FB, 4 three quarters and two half backs before we dip into reserves which are mainly academy and lads too old and none of them seem anywhere near playing, however your young lads don’t even seem to get mentioned in coming across. Bearing in mind the lack of any backs we have is this saying that both coaching staff groups think your young backs aren’t even ready for Champ rugby yet? Just a question to add to your debate about youth or Evans'"
Of our young backs, Broadbent and A Suttcliffe are both ready for championship rugby, both played it last season, Suttcliffe done very well at left for Fev and Broadbent showed flashes of his undoubted potential at Fev and Batley. Suttcliffes a /backrower and Broadbents played and wing in the championship but he's a all day long and a very good one. We'v got some very good prospects who'l be 2nd year u18's this season Stephens, Hall, Burton and Tindall...All England academy players, they'l most likely be monitored throughout the season to see if theyr progressing well enough for a championship stint. Theres also a lad called Liam Whitten , Yorkshire academy player , same age group as Broadbent, Fullback, scored loads for our academy, good player but very slight, type of player the reserves will benefit imo.

Exactly how they’ve said they’ll do it. Fringe players who Featherstone aren’t using on dual registration (max of 5), players coming back from injury, Featherstone players that aren’t playing that week, university rugby league players and amateur rugby league players.

| As a Bulls fan this really is a strange one. Rhys was a solid enough player when fit last season but hardly looked Super League material despite his history with the Wire. He lacks pace and I doubt he will feature much in your first team. As for your youngsters coming to Odsal..........sorry Dewsbury(!!) I just hope they don't get bullied in the Championship. I fear this hints that both our clubs will struggle this coming season. Anyway I'm looking forwards to visiting the shiny new Headingley on the 12th Jan to show our respect for JJB and Rob Burrow.

| I assume the young lads to Bradford will have a recall option - or will it be season-long like Evans is?
Sometimes we seem to think that some lads would benefit from having their eyes opened a bit. Young lads coming straight to Leeds are spoiled really in terms of facilities and support, from a young age. Mixing with grown men who have a day job as well as playing can show them what opportunity they really have, maybe.
Can't say it improved Cam Smith or Mik last time out, but we'll see. Another thing is that I'm sure Leeds do genuinely want to help Bradford out a bit (hence us paying a small fee too).
Would be disappointed if we can't see Walters, Holroyd or Mustapha in a Leeds first team this season TBH.
It would also undermine (if further undermining is needed) Leeds' commitment to the Reserves. It becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy if big clubs don't engage, but Leeds have made it clear that they favour sending players out to Champ clubs... I do wonder if there are some commercial considerations in there!

Maybe they haven't room on their salary cap.

They’ve been asked which players they’d likely use over the season and these weren’t mentioned, which is why they are going out on loan.

DR doesn’t go onto the Featherstone salary cap.
