Clearly. That's why Morrisons pay £15 an hour to recruit the most talented checkout staff from around the world.

| Quote: BrisbaneRhino "Even if Leeds make a million a year profit (I use that term advisedly as its a slippery sod itself), that means they'd need to save it for years to pay for major redevelopment of the stadium.
An increase in the cap would mean nothing for most SL teams, who are kept alive purely by the largesse of their owners. It would also in large part go straight into the hands of the existing crop of SL players. If the cap is holding everyone back, why hasn't every SL side got a "marquee" player?
TBH the naivety about the cap is incredible. It can't stop teams going bust but its far better protection than none at all. The idea that its some kind of capitalist conspiracy to keep cigar chewing suits in champers is mind-boggling. Most club owners have to support their clubs every year, not the other way round.'"
And yet here you are describing as preferable a situation where a man whose family wealth is measured in the hundreds of millions pays his employees less so that he can add improvements worth tens of millions to his asset worth tens of millions with no investment from himself.

Morrisons ceo (not owner) was paid 2.6m in bonuses last year.

I was expecting the new players union (league13) to challenge this, as has happened in the NRL, but the players union seemed to fold before doing anything.

Same customers
You are suggesting out in the real world the same rules apply about market forces and the value of individuals - I am not convinced that is the case where payments to players are restricted by an upper limit of combined salaries. Out in your real commercial world give me an example of where the conditions experienced by RL players is replicated?
What is the incentive for an upward change - if all the clubs are in the same position, the competitive advantage would be in removing the cap altogether?
I am amazed GH hasn't managed to convince the other CEO's to bring the cap down - I genuinely believe that is what he wants, he certainly wanted it a few years ago.
If the salaries of the senior managers were also included in the cap I guarantee the cap would not have remained at the same level for 10+ years

Morrisons are allowed to pay whatever they deem appropriate - they are not constricted by an over all cap on salaries so if they want to pay the CEO £4m a year no other member of staff's wages have to be compromised to allow that to happen. Of course you were being facetious for the sake of it. If Leeds wanted to sign Jonathan Thurston then a serious re-jigging of the squad would be required to financially accomodate him

Central Park used to be a rugby league ground, now it's something else.

The salary cap is reduced every year. I would bet a decent wedge Gary Hetherington's and Nigel Wood's salaries have both increased from 1998.

Not convinced this analagy is working.
Who would be the Leeds RL equivalent of the Morrison's CEO? Is their remuneration package restricted by the imposition of the SL salary cap?
I wasn't aware that it was.

Thurston would the highest earner at the club a bit like the CEO at Morrisons - he is the star performer, you would hope your CEO is likewise.
However to include Thurston Leeds would have to ditch half the squad to accomodate him due to him earning approx half the cap - Morrisons don't have to ditch half the board to accomodate a new CEO because they can only spend £6m on directors. They are free to go out and hire anyone they want without it impacting either the financial or employment status of anyone else
Simple really

That simple that we might have been playing in a league of about 6 professional clubs by the time the rest had all gone bump.
(Although I have to say the SC should have been incrementally lifted each year &/or tied to T/O)

Maybe we need to reduce the number of full time clubs to 10 sustainable clubs with a realistic salary cap.
