| There's no stopping the mouth on this idiot - if anyone actually votes for this moron then they are just as (if not more) retarded than he is.

| I don't know what to make of Tyson Fury. I don't particularly follow boxing, but his achievement in beating klitschko sounds pretty impressive, though reaction seems to be mixed? I find some of the stuff he says and his attitudes toward women, the LBGT community and anyone who doesn't agree with him repellent and a throw back to less enlightened times. But in saying that, I think he echoes a strong sub cullture in our society. To me he's a grass roots, less politically savvy, less erudite version of Nigel Farage. If he does do well in the SPOTY poll I wouldn't be at all surprised.

| Film idea: "Too Daft, Too Fury-ish".
Vin Diesel goes around calling all gays "paedos" while a woman lies flat on her back in the kitchen making his tea.

| They usually interview all nominees during the show so will be interesting to see what they do. If he actually shows up to the awards I can't see them wanting to put a live microphone to his mouth.

| Fury's views are consistent with the gypsy community (see Billy Joe Saunders' similar comments), and religious whack jobs in general, he has a different opinion to me, and I find his comments classless, and ignorant, but simply throwing your toys out of the pram, and calling for him to be thrown off the list will only make a martyr of him, and it won't change his mind, or people with similar views.
Lastly, I'm sick of being told athletes are role models, especially the athletes who beat people up for a living. Are parents becoming so distant from their kids that someone like Tyson Fury is considered a role model?

Great point.... Some sports stars can no doubt be great role models, but that doesn't mean all HAVE to be.... Cambatitive sports in particular can attract a certain demographic of person by the nature of the sport and you'll always get a few colourful characters - it's part of the attraction sometimes. They can't all be Kevin Sinfield type über clean, ultra professional, pillars of society.... Infact, they're the minority. There'll always be plenty of scrotes 'make it' in physical sports. Parents need to get a grip..
On a similar note, I also find the whole 'family friendly' argument of banning the biff ridiculous - I was brought up watching old school rugby league, with thugs like Skerret, Fairbank and Les Boyd taking liberties, but I still knew it was wrong to go out and poleaxe someone off the ball, or start swinging haymakers in a game for the sake of it.... If parents actually spend some time parenting, instead of facebooking and watching Jeremy Kyle or The Only Way is Essex, they might find the time to teach their kids some values and a mind of their own and not have to worry about the influence a sportsman might have on their kids behaviour or lifestyle.

Whilst I get your drift, I don't think the type of parents who start and sign petitions and complain about violence on tv and sports are also the type to be sitting around watching Jeremy Kyle etc.

I'd agree with most of that.
I'd also agree Fury shouldn't be thrown off SPOTY. In much the same way as Donald Trump's comments, I think his comments should be highlighted by everyone as much as possible and he and his views should be shown up for their ted, backward, illogical, and just plain stupid nature.
I also agree to a point with biff in RL. I don't mind at all if players get in a bit of a scrap. However I don't want to see the nasty stuff back, the Moriarty-type elbows, for instance, should stay gone from the game. I would however only apply this to the fully pro leagues. The semi-pro players deserve extra protection as they are taking a higher risk through playing so bans and punishments for such things should be higher. And there's no place at all for biff in the amateur game. Repeat offenders (including coaches, officials and clubs) should be thrown out of the game if they can't control themselves at amateur level.
I agree re role models. I think kids can respond to positive role models in sport but that's only if parents and coaches encourage them to do so. Kids will only respond to a negative role model if parents and coaches allow them to and don't provide a positive role model, of which there are plenty.

| Is the whole Role Model thing a recent invention? As a teenager in the 70s I had posters of footballers & bands on my bedroom wall, but that’s about as far as it went. I don’t remember much media hype around them or ever questioning my devotion to them as a result. I guess with only 3 TV channels only broadcasting part of the day, similar restrictive radio broadcasting & possibly less hysterical newspaper coverage, there was far little to worry about. I think Role Models are an invention of governments & media to excuse the shoite society they have created.

I'd agree mostly, though as a coach, I'd say that someone like Sinfield is very useful to give kids an example of the manner in which to play the game and how to conduct themselves in a game and in training.

Oh I would agree entirely. The chances of me meeting my heroes as a kid were non-existent, but if I did, or any of my progeny get the chance, it would be stupidity beyond belief for an adult not to point out Sinfield as the type of person to be admired, respected & copied.

Odds continue to lower, he's at 7-8/1 now with some bookies. Fury leaking back to 25/1 and Hamilton as far back as 40/1 with some (which I find really surprising). 3rd is looking very promising and hell he might even be able to do the unlikely and gate crash the top 2.
New campaign going called Buy Kev a Pint. The idea that you'd gladly buy the guy a pint of you met him, so vote 20 times at 15p a go and that's the cost of a pint.

| Just like to add a couple of things on Tyson Fury;
1 - Whilst I disagree with much of what he says, I do admire the fact that he's prepared to voice his opinion in such a ridiculously PC world and stand his ground when everyone condemns him - I don't actually think he's said anything too shocking - plenty of blokes down the pub would say similar or worse on a Friday night after a few jars.
2 - His views are absolutely in line with those of a similar background and heritage - people are suddenly really keen to express their horror at his views (and therefore most men from gypsy background), but many of those are the same people who 'took offence' at fans chanting '' to Sean Long....
3 - What sort of bloke does it take to contact the Greater Manchester Police to submit a statement against Fury after hearing his comments on the news (as somebody has).....
The birth of social media has brought about the birth of the faux morally outraged.... There are people out there who can't wait for the next comment that they can jump all over and shout 'Racist, homophobe, sexist, discrimination' at the earliest opportunity.... The world has gone mad!!!
