I also know sponsoring a team or TV adverts are very different to what will motivate Leeds fans to buy a ST at this particular time. A story which can confirmed in the next few weeks if Burgess signs or not.

No I'm debating the opinion that GH's words are being used as a marketing tool simply for Season Ticket purposes.

Well, on this occasion, you can consider the debate well and truly lost. A little early to draw a conclusion you may you may say but the minute you suggested that the statement wasn't in any way intended to promote the Rhinos, your arguments were flawed.

I've not said "wasn't in ANY way intended to promote the Rhinos"......I've DOUBTED that it was done for the purpose of trying boost Season Ticket sales. So I can consider the debate back on if you read what I actually wrote.

Then you clearly know nothing of marketing. Like even less than a person with no experience of it whatsoever. Like less than someone would expect to pick up just by living in the world we live in.

Even the premise that such an action would have such a specific return is at odds with very basic marketing tenets.

(Or more likely you are knitting fog to avoid admitting you were wrong.)

As it goes I do happen to work in marketing.

For what it's worth you are both actually right to a degree. I don't think GH is pushing the SB angle to sell a particular product, be that season tickets, shirts, corporate boxes or whatever.

The overall impact is just one of general promotion of Leeds (and by extension SL as a comp). Creating a bit of international brand awareness is always useful. Then by extension you will likely see a bit of uplift on product lines though that isn't always an immediate thing.

That is certainly the case.

But measuring such a thing by sales would be nuts. It wouldn't even cross anyone's mind to do so.

It doesn't stop companies trying to but I agree, it's impossible to say 'those 200 season tickets were sold as a direct impact of GH saying we are in for SB'.

It occurs that if winning everything available this year doesn't inspire season ticket sales to new heights, GH saying maybe possibly perhaps about SB isn't likely to put many bums on seats. But as you and others have said it raises the profile of the Rhinos in particular and RL in general, which is never a waste of effort for mine.
