| Cuthberton's non selection is still mystifying.

| McBanana is the worst coach in RL at any level, international or domestic. He is the weak link in the England set up and none of the players respect him (hardly surprising given he has achieved nothing as a coach). He should have gone years ago

A little brutal
However, generally agree. The talent England have these days is far greater than when Mac took over after the disaster of the WC 2008 and 2009 tri series. When he took over, it was because we were an absolute laughing stock and no quality coach would touch it with a barge pole so he got it by default. He has done ok to be fair, and got close in a few big tournaments but i don't think he is good enough to give us that 1% maybe needed to get us the other side of a big game win when things get tight we will always be second best under his leadership imo. Hopefully this will be his last series as coach, we could have a real dig at the next WC with the right man at the helm.

Interesting view, but had Shaun Johnson not broke our hearts in the World Cup Semi, we'd have had a decent shot at the Aussies in a World Cup Final - peoples views would be different then....
He's very well thought of at the Roosters (just signed a new 2 year deal as Trent Robinsons assistant), with RTS coming out last week and praising him as a coach.

A decent shot, did you see the final?
We wouldn't simply have lost, we'd have died.

I actually think we would have given it a better go than NZ, who were very poor on the day, they shot their bolt against us.Aussies were great mind, and still would have beaten us no doubt.

| I also think we'd have done better than NZ - couldn't do much worse... 80,000 fans all cheering England on and players with the chance to make themselves legends - we'd have given it a go I'm sure....
Point stands anyway - the Roosters, one of the best run clubs in the game obviously rate McNamara highly.....

| The problem is when people complain about any GB/England coach that the 'obvious' selections they get roasted for not including are generally a long way from the required standard. Danny Brough might have been worth a shout, but it was his decision to find his grandad's kilt once McNamara had the temerity to suggest he might not be an automatic pick.
I agree this series is McNamara's last chance, but again if he isn't the England coach who should be?

And this is the potential 'problem' for us as if/when McNamara gets the boot I reckon the RFL will be speaking to uncle Gary about appointing McDermott.

Well for arguments sake England are looking for a new coach after this series, you'd think they'd head straight for McDermott first. Would he take it? Would he do it full time or part time along with his Leeds job?
After that their's plenty of English coaches in SL as you work your way down from Wane, Anderson, Powell, Betts.
I know McDermott is doing a part time gig with the USA to try take them to the World Cup but I doubt that'll be a problem to get out of that to take the England job. Remember earlier in the year when it was announced that he'd be coaching USA after the season ended and some usual suspects had a pop at him for that, thought he might take his eye of the ball and be distracted from Leeds' campaign.....didn't do too badly in the end.

| The problem is that the England coaching role is a poisoned chalice. I'd bet quite a few wouldn't look at it unless they were desperate.
Of the names mentioned I wouldn't mind seeing Powell have a go.

| You are only going to get a good standard coach if it's a part time role, the other option is to bring nobby back.
If Tim Sheens is at Salford, I'd like to see him offered the job part time. He's the best qualified of anyone who could be available.

| If McNamara was seriously going to play Samkins at fullback ahead of Zak, then for that alone he needs getting rid of.
Tomkins hasn't played for about 6 months yet was still in the frame to replace the form fullback & MoS.
McDermott should be in the frame to become England coach & may fancy it - what else has he to prove at SL level?

True, but he might prefer the day to day, week upon week role of club management rather than just getting 4 or 5 games at the back end of the year.
