It has absolutely nothing to do with the RFL. Why should it? Explain to me exactly how it is "bringing the game into disrepute".
It's someone within the game expressing an opinion on something else within the game. If you're not allowed to do that, then you may as well ban current players and coaches from going on things like the Super League Show, because they won't be able to say anything negative.
I would suspect some people on this thread are allowing their own antipathy towards McDermott as a coach and a person to cloud their judgement on this issue and turning it into another excuse to have a dig.'"
Spot on.
The anti-Mac brigade are so transparent. They have had to pipe down for much of the season because we are top of the league and playing attractive rugby and even though they now agree with what he says they have to have a go because he had the bottle to speak out

| I agree entirely with what Mac said. I accept he is entitled to say it.
I vehemently believe he shouldn't have said it.
If his motive really was to offer some support for Salford's payers then
1. It isn't his job to boost the moral of opposition players
2. Have a chat with them post game whilst they're having a feed.
His role is to coach Leeds and further our interests. How does this do that? When speaking to the press his role is to further the interests of the game. How did this do that?
If this were Shaun Wane sticking the boot into the owner of another team posters on here would be apoplectic.

To suggest that the not so good Doctor, who makes his own critical views public at the drop of a hat, should have special sub-judice rights is not logical even for you. If you think this does not concern Mac then listen again to the interview. He really is concerned that a set of players, whom he rates, becoming so demoralised that they conceded 70 points after being asked if he was disappointed that he didn't get a closer game. Why shouldn't a coach be concerned for the players and his fellow coaches. Why shouldn't he be concerned that the public were short changed?

| There is not one single positive for the Leeds club from McDermott speaking about another clubs owner in this manner.

exactly this. I like McDermott, I think he has done a great job here.
But how does this help us at all? Its nothing to do with us, best to stay out of it, no benefit.

Why does everything he talks about need to be a positive, benefit or help to Leeds?
I could understand if what he said could turn out to be a negative or harm the club, but this won't, it won't effect the Leeds club at all.....all it'll do it make the Doctor sulk, hardly a worry.
I see guys on the SLS or studio guests at live matches (Peacock in particular) every week discussing other clubs. The opinions they give are of no benefit to their club so should we cry foul of them appearing?

It will effect relations between Leeds and Salford, that would be a negative. On the other side there is no benefit at all.
He gets wound up in interviews anyway, this will just give more ammunition for interviewers to test him. Another negative.
It just didn't need to be said, that's all.

| If it's damaging the game, then McD has every right to stand up and speak, it shouldn't matter if it benefits Leeds.

Why? Were we planning on re-signing Darryl Griffin? Our future relationship with Salford whilst the Doctor is running the soap opera over there.....that's not a problem at all.

He does get wound up at times in interviews I agree, he however wasn't wound up this time. He's very calm when he says it, just an honest opinion not from being tested or rattled.
Quote: Gotcha "It just didn't need to be said, that's all.'"
Agreed he doesn't NEED to say it......but he doesn't NEED to avoid saying it either.

They're his employers.. He was undertaking his paid role. He's representing them when he speaks to the media.
It struck me as classless to attack Koukash that way. We're Leeds, we're not Wigan. We're better than that.
Are we all content, btw, that McDermott was in possession of the full set of facts when he launched voiced his opinion? Had he discussed it with Koukash beforehand to get his version of events? If he had, why the hell had he?

And if it painted Leeds in a bad light or negatively then it's a problem, it didn't. I also doubt GH view of Koukash varies from McDermott's and that he'll have had a problem with it.
Quote: G1 "It struck me as classless to attack Koukash that way. We're Leeds, we're not Wigan. We're better than that.'"
If you just view it as an attack on an individual then maybe (Koukash should view it as advice rather than an attack but I doubt it). Under the radar is that he also defended everyone else at the Salford club. I'd say pointing out the good characters of men he knows is actually a classy thing to do.

What facts did McDermott reveal exactly that need checking?

Wow bear that last paragraph in mind Mr Gilder whenever there is a discussion about club v country!! kettle and pot come to mind?
I agree with Gareth he has every right to say what he thinks - but if he gives it he has to be able to take it something he quite clearly cannot. When Leeds exited the play offs week one there was no holding his hand up, if Leeds don't win anything this season he will not be to blame - he never is.

I doubt GH would air such views publicly, even if he holds them.
The Salford players could have shown some character themselves on the pitch. If they felt any better for the kind words from the coach of the opposition team that has just given them an embarrassing hiding then they lack any real character.
I've no idea about the issues happening day to day at Salford. Then again, neither does McDermott. He may hear the perspective from some players he is connected with but I doubt he has the full picture.

But again he didn't reveal any facts now did he? He talked about the way Koukash handles and expresses himself.....that's clear to see for all of us without being in the Salford dressing room. Watching him constantly swearing throughout a 45 minute press conference just last match is embarrassing for the sport for an owner to do.

So what? Ive already said I agree with McDemermott (who himself has given a few cringeworthy interviews he should be embarrassed about).
There's nothing for Leeds to gain from McDermott's comments so I'd rather he kept them to himself.
And it's not hard to imagine a negative from this. What of Leeds want top sign Theo Fages, Naill Evalds or some other promising young player. You think Koukash will be in a rush to do business?
