Quote: Ferdy "Agree regarding Delaney having a good game. He gets through some work and peacock put in another good shift. Think the pack In general had a good game'"

Thought the forwards as a unit had a good game instead of just maybe 1 or 2 stepping up (even though Peacock got MOM). The use of subs helped, all 4 got decent time (work load shared), although I don't agree with having 2 hookers on when we are 20-4 up with 15mins to go, an extra forward would've been better since we had all the points we needed and Saints did make better yards down the middle in the 2nd half when McShane came on for JJB.

Ryan Hall must be so pleased that we got Joel Moon, but not only that but I think Hall also ran the ball in strongly when starting sets in our own half.

We didn't get as much joy from Ablett as expected but you've got to credit the young Saints lad Percival for a great game.

Defence was very encouraging. Delaney flew out of the line to force a knock-on on Saints' first real attack and Hall's stoppage of the 40-20 was great work. Watkins postioning for kicks looked much better as well, granted he had help from the people pressuring the kickers.

We probably should've scored an extra try or two but considering it was an away game against tough opposition that we usually struggle against then it's just about getting the job done.

A great win after last weeks efforts and the most pleasing thing imo was how we defended after errors/penalties conceded we showed some great line speed and aggresive tackling.
Of course there's the "if only" moments which imo cost us a minimum 3 tries but we've won away at ST's for the 1st time in a few years and put a great shift in after a WCC.
I also agree our forwrads did a good job and JP deservedly got M.O.M with delaney very close imo.

2 poor teams out there tonight. At least you have the excuse of the WCC last week.

Great performance tonight but the sooner we get Hardaker back into the back line the better.

Not sure what the right option is - whether we stick with Vickery or bring another youngster in but with Huddersfield and Wigan coming up, it's a tough decision to make.

Agree RE Vickery Didn't offer much in attack and made a couple of silly errors in defence, Don't know what the options could be? Watson on the wing???

What did Vickery do so wrong FR??
For the 1st Meli effort he simply followed the right side defence in and picked up Manu in the tackle whilst for the 2nd Mcguire went walk about and left him exposed 3 on 1.
I thought he did ok with the ball and was in no way to blame defensively so why change him?

He didn't do much wrong and I know he's only had a few games and the alternatives aren't that big an improvement. Just throwing a few ideas about.

Saints were poor, Leeds were workman like. Did what they had to do (as illustrated by Sinfield going for 2 points twice) we could've clicked better in attack but perhaps a more concentrated effort in defence hampered that. It wasn't as bad a game I thought as it was made out to be, a quiet crowd not helped by a disappointing home performance meant it was played in a lacklustre atmosphere that made it come across as poor.

I don't think Keinhorst would've done any better on the wing, that leaves bringing in another inexperienced player like Watson and that's not a guarantee of an improved performance. He probably stuck too much to the whitewash in the 2nd half whilst the rest of the defence got sucked in for Percival's breaks but more to do with being softer in defence in the middle with 2 hookers on, Ablett wasn't in place for those 2 tries as a a result.

I don't think Vickery was shocking. He didn't blow any chances neither was he a massive liability in defence, but neither did he show anything overally encouraging to suggest he'll ever be anything more than just solid rather than spectacular.

Whilst i agree he's not looked like the next Offiah i dont think he's done owt wrong worthy of dropping so imo i'd keep him in for now at least.

vickery is slow as fook and his defence was all over the shop, he got a few lucky breaks when he came shooting in field but they were anything but good defence reads, as show by the amount of times he made the wrong choice.

Significant result tonight - it suggests we're going to slog it out in the weekly rounds this year.

Looking forward to next week to see how this pack measures up against Huddersfield, plus the return of Lunty....

From the start of the season I thought this was a key period for us right after the WCC

Saints (A)
Hudds (H)
Wigan (H)

I thought 4 points from a possible 6 would be good given the circumstances (just after the WCC) and it's a good start. Still not clicking 100% in attack and the defence should be asked tougher questions than what Saints asked of us but it's a start. After these 3 games a possible squad rotation might be available. It wasn't a classic performace but the defence showed we are taking regular season games importantly despite what any knee jerkers might say straight after we lose any game.

A good result considering our record over there in recent times.

We were far from our best though, and most Saints sides of recent years would have put us away long before we had our good little spell in the second half.Good to see we toughed it out straight after the WCC,The effort was there, and it sets us up for two big tests at Home in the coming weeks.
