Not only last season's highest Leeds attendance at Headingley but the first time they exceeded 20K since June 2007 - and that was 72 home fixtures previous.
__________
On a related theme it will be interesting to see how close Leeds come to dipping back into a four figure crowd when the less attractive (smaller travelling fanbase) teams are in town.
Leeds' last sub 10K Headingley crowd in a Regular Round fixture was back in Coach Powell's final season when 8,231 showed up for the visit of the London Broncos - 25th July 2003.
Since then there have been 125 consecutive five figure attendances at Headingley in the Regular Rounds - an aggregate total of 2,004,929 at an average of 16,039

| Melbourne just lost 40-6 to Canberra in their 1st preseason trial. They put out a mixed team though with no real stars playing. IIRC too, Manly were just as impressively beaten in their 1st trial last season.
Melbourne's team today:
1 Ben Hampton
2 Matt Duffie
3 Maurice Blair
4 Junior Sa’u
5 Mahe Fonua
6 Gareth Widdop
7 B Finch
8 Jesse Bromwich
9 Slade Griffin
10 Bryan Norrie
11 Kevin Proctor
12 Ryan Hoffman
13 Ryan Hinchcliffe
14 Junior Moors
15 Young Tonumaipea
16 Jason Ryles
17 Siosaia Vave
18 Tohu Harris
19 Lagi Setu
20 Kurt Mann
21 Jordan McLean
22 Tim Glasby
23 Richard Kennar
Melbourne's most likely 17 to face us:
1. Slater
2. Waqa
3. O'Neill
4. Chambers
5. Duffie
6. Widdop
7. Cronk
8. J.Bromwich
9. Smith
10. Norrie
11. Proctor
12. Hoffman
13. Hinchcliffe
14. Finch
15. Vave
16. Ryles
17. Harris

Something to do with their vitamin regime perhaps?

This news suggests the Storm are a reasonable chance in 2 weeks time. NRL teams turning up a week or less before the WCC is not good preparation and usually results in defeat. Manly took it less seriously last year when they turned up only a week before the game and they predictably ended up losing. When they took it more seriously a couple of seasons earlier turning up 2 weeks before the WCC and getting a warm-up game in against the Quins, they took Leeds to the cleaners.
I still expect Leeds to beat Melbourne, but not by much.
