| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Atkinson was a good winger, but no Boston, Vollenhoven, Bevan, Offiah etc.
Green Vigo made him look like a selling plater, get hold of a copy of 100 great tries.'"
A bit selective though.......
I agree 'that' try is a great one deserving to be included in the 'video tape' (though i've not watched it for a while)
But i don't think many people can remember Green for anything else.
Throughout his career Atkinson scored some great try's but wouldn't get in any Super League side if he was playing today.

Vigo scored three great tries that day, all on the video.
He should have been a great winger but sadly fell into bad company (some of those were in the Wigan team ) who showed him the wrong way to be a pro player. It's sad really because the "Vigo" type of player in the correct environment would be box office today.

As for Ryan Hall, a very good winger, but I wouldn't swap him for Josh Charnley who is younger, faster and more evasive.'"
Only one problem with Charnley - he can't defend!!

Agreed.
I don't recall seeing Charnley's name on the World XIII teamsheet.

Charnley is overrated IMO............good SL winger playing in a very good SL squad.
Hall over Charnley every time

John Atkinson was a great winger, not good. Very dismissive of what he achieved, not just for Leeds but for GB.
I'm pleased you wouldn't swap Hall for Charnley because neither would I. Charnely is a good young player but Hall is the complete winger. Perhaps when Charnley puts in the kind of display against the Aussies that Hall did the other year you could realistically compare.

I read his post several times over, convinced it was a wind up! Leroy Rivett was faster and more evasive than Hall, not sure I'd rather have Rivett though!
Fact: my dad played in the same school team as John Atkinson!...and Ian Mcgeechan!

Over all throughout both careers John Atkinson was far and away a better winger than Vigo.that particular game on Atky was at the backend of his career and he came straight off nightshift in the heavy mob,IMO he was also better than Offiah

Indeed he was much better over his career than Vigo. As I explained it was such a shame as Vigo had the raw talent but fell into bad company. If you ever get the chance ask George Fairbairn about the phone call he got prior to his first game as coach at HKR.
On the Charnley v Hall call and Charnley not being able to defend.
They played directly against each other four times last season Charnley scored five tries and Hall scored four, does that mean Hall can't defend either?
Hall actually statistically misses more tackles than Charnley.
These stats suggest the Charnley is the better defender.

Charnley is averaging a try per game, how does that compare to Hall?

Does that not say MI (missed tackles) Charnley 21 Hall 19??
Also Hall has played all year without a recognised centre in a team finishing lower down the table. Anyway stats shouldn't be needed to see that Hall is the better all round player, though I highly rate Charnley.

Yes but it says Charnley made 154 tackles to Halls 113.

Well you can't miss tackles that don't come your way. The stat is that Charnley missed more tackles than Hall.
