Its so good you could not have moved further away if you tried, its a shame 40,000 of you could not turn up at Wembley though.

Quote: centralparkforever "Always remember Leeds went through a phase of buying Wigan players that were passed their best, Hanley, Gregory, Wane, Stephenson, Goodway, Bell, Connolly. Didnt really work though, just empty pockets and long faces. Nothing changed has it really.'"

I'm trying to always remember when Leeds bought Dean Bell from Wigan.

Strange thing is I can't and even stranger I seem to recall him playing for Manukau, Carlisle, Leeds, Eastern Suburbs before signing on at Wigan. Then Auckland (for their inauguration season in the ARL) and then back to Leeds where he took up the position of head coach after Laughton's sudden, unexpected resignation.

I'm pretty sure I must have that all wrong though.

No we got him from Easts you are right about that just like you signed Kevin Iro from Manly, another guy passed his best by the time you bought him. Leeds were always classed as being the big spenders of rugby league so were we for that matter, only differance was we won things and you didnt, ET, McGaw Crooks Schofield to name a few and have probably missed a few out too. Surely a couple of Yorkshire Cups were not good enough for a team of talent you had back then.

You are just another armchair Leeds fan who watched the game on telly instead of going down to see your Loiners or Rhinos. No wonder your own coach couldnt keep his views to himself after the game, youre a discrase calling yourself a fan.'"

No, I just moved from Beeston to Middleton so thought I'd change my Name.

I suppose if you would have gone it would not have surprised me if you would have been home early because the majority of your fans left early.

A couple of Yorkshire Cups would have been good, certainly better than the one Leeds managed at any rate.

Leeds and Wigan both won their respective County Cups in 1988/89 and Leeds' only consolation in not winning another in the final four years of it's existance was Wigan only winning another one over the same period.

Ettingshausen and McGaw were virtual unknowns when they first arrived at Headingley. In Ettingshausen case he was a short notice second choice replacement for Peter Jackson who backed out of a deal to come over and McGaw was ET's mate just coming along for the ride. Lucky break that one.

No matter who Leeds signed they never found the 'team' to consistently get over Wigan who, as I'm sure you'll accept also led the way in the transfer market. Fortunately for the rest of the game the business plan eventually failed and not a moment too soon and we could finally get back to a sporting contest.

I will go further back, i can remember us completing mission impossible on the Yorkshire Cricket Club car park and your future captain lifting the championship trophy. You see anytime you beat us the games have been meaningless in the end cos you havent gone on to win anything yourself. Please note we won the double again that season, is that something you lot have ever managed once? If so just ask your grandparents for a look through their scrap book or old programmes to find outeusa_boohoo.gif
