| The school near me is, and I quote... "Closed due to adverse weather conditions".
REALLY!? Bit extreme don't you think?
The thing about 4x4's in snow, whilst they are clearly far superior in terms of grip for setting off and getting up hills etc, if you lose it on the ice, you've just got 2.5 tons of uncontrollable machine just as much as everyone else has.
Case in point, last year (or early this year can't remember) I was crawling down the ring road between Horsforth & Pudsey at 6am at 10mph following tyre tracks (as were the 5 other cars all doing the same), when some Land Rover Discovery shot past me in the unused, fresh snow, outside lane at 50+mph, sure enough, me and the other 5 sensible drivers had to pull in to help said to[iss[/ipot when he was facing the wrong way, upside down in a ditch just before the turn for Farsley. They think cos they had no trouble setting off or getting out of the drive that they're immune to patches of ice. It's lucky the sturdy frame and size of the car saved his life really.

True, the Mrs has one, it is miles better, but not infallible.

| Despite originating the service in Edinburgh at 5am and travelling through the worst of the snow in Northumberland my train was only 18 mins late this morning and lost no further time en route to Birmingham.
Absolutely ace are Cross Country Trains
Just a light dusting of snow in Brum tonight and I can turn up the heat as high as I like in my hotel room with no fear of how I'm going to pay the bill, its almost tropical in here tonight.

| I've had my Saab for about 18 moths now and it's fine in the snow. I picked the eldest up from work in Guisley on Sunday and was following a scooter (honestly) up Tinshill Lane (those that don't know it, it's quite a steep hill) and this monkey was all over the place.
I though "if he comes off I'm just going to have to drive over him" - if I'd have stopped I might not have got going again.

Because it's slippy and much easier for the car to go out of control.

| This is the radar from 20 mins ago...
It's moving directly west. We'll get some heavy stuff but by the looks of it were missing the worst stuff by no more than 10 miles or so.
