| For homesickness should we read "is not earning as much as he thought he was going to due to the change in the exchange rate and therefore wants to go back down under"????

| Quote: G1 "I remember as a kid going on a school trip for the 1st time. I got homesick and rang my mum in tears asking her to come and collect me. She gave me some tough but loving words and explained that she had paid money she could ill afford to send me on a trip I had begged to go on and that my issues weren't really issues and she could not and would not come and collect me. '"
There are probably a number of regulars on this board who can sympathise with your mum's stance on the situation you present. She deserves a medal never mind a break.
Quote: G1 "Should Leeds release Greg to make him happy? In my opinion, no. It's time for greg to grow up a little bit, work through his personal issues and repay much of the commitment made to him over these last two years by the Rhinos. It also would set a very dangerous precedent for future antipodeans looking to wriggle out of lucrative Super League contracts.'"
How would it create a precedent? There have already been plenty of antipodeans that have cut short planned stays in SL and some don't even have the decency to see out the season let alone their contract. Adam Mogg and Shane Tronc being but two recent examples at Les Catalans and Wakefield respectively.
[sizeIf[/size he wants out then it will be in Leeds' best interests to accede to his request, on the clubs terms.
When you employ antipodeans generally (and increase your reliance on them as Leeds have done recently) then that is the risk you take. Not many of them will know in advance how seperation from family and friends is going to effect them.

| Quote: G1 "That would be an easy solution for Greg, do doubt.
But maybe he should actually work through his issues and honour the commitment Leeds have made to him? I am tired and lazy and want to go home now. I am unhappy in the office. Should my employers let me go home therefore?
Leeds have made a massive commitment to Greg. They were extra-ordinarily accommodating to him last year, have committed a contract and, presumably, a quota space to him. Given his age and length of contract they've probably planned a lot of future recruitment plans around him honoring that contract.
If the stories are true it doesn't appear to be effecting his form on the pitch so why should Leeds care? I am sure that many of the Leeds players have personal, emotional issues but they play through them. I am afraid that Greg should do likewise. He feels homesick now, who knows how he might feel in 6 months time.
I remember as a kid going on a school trip for the 1st time. I got homesick and rang my mum in tears asking her to come and collect me. She gave me some tough but loving words and explained that she had paid money she could ill afford to send me on a trip I had begged to go on and that my issues weren't really issues and she could not and would not come and collect me. Maybe greg's father, if that letter really was him, could employ some better parenting and greg could man up like I did as a boy?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you're saying. In 6 months time he may feel very differently about the situation. If he goes home he may regret a missed opportunity. But I can understand where he's coming from.
It seems to me that his dad has unsettled him as much as anything, and if that letter and his comments on Facebook are to be believed, then his comments about Leeds making it difficult for him are just dirty tactics to try and manufacture a transfer back home, as I don't believe Leeds would employ quite such aggressive tactics to force him to stay. Although as you say, they are entitled to expect some form of loyalty.

| I think the talk of leeds been bully boys and threatening legal action is complete tosh. Why would the club bother doing this? Im sure it'd really fill other propective signings with confidence if they required an early release.

| Quote: Old Feller "As for another poster claiming that it is a privilege to play for the Rhinos, get real.
As fans we'd regard it as a privilege & some homegrown players too but not the bulk of antipodeans.
'"
Of course it's a privilege. This is a famous club, one of the most famous in the world. Anyone invited to play for us is in a privileged position.
I dont give a crap about whether antipodeans feel its a privilege, I'm saying they should feel privileged not mess the club and the fans around. if his father has writtne that letter then he's a dick.

If he doesn't want to be here, then it probably is best for both parties to allow him to leave. But claiming he should be priveleged to pull on the shirt, and if he doesn't like it he can f off, is stupid talk.'"
Have you ever played any kind of sport?

| Oh, and for what its worth, if I was asked to play for Leeds, St Helens, Bradford, Keighley, Batley, Dewsbury, London Skolars, Bramley or Crossgates WMC I'd feel priviliged so it isnt a Leeds thing specifically.

TVOC, sir, you're a worthy nemesis. If I were to use a cultural reference, you're the Ricky Bobby to my Jean Girard.

| Not seen that one yet. I'll try and illegally download it later and check if the compliment is from the forehand or backhand.

So would Ian Kirke
