Quote: (Broken) Time Bandit "We were out-coached, out-thought and out-played. It really is that simple.
A disappointing game, made all the more arduous by having to stand near some of the most ignorant (of the rules) and, sadly, loud, fans of our team.
Rather than worrying about officials, we should be worrying about our performances (if there really is any need to worry this early).
Have Wakey had refs on their side so far this season? Hull? Warrington? Wigan? I suspect not, they've played well. We need to start.

P.S. as I left the ground I texted the Mrs and told her there'd be a thread on here about the ref.....'"

/respect mate.

It takes a lot of integrity to go against the flow and say it how you see it on the back of a loss like that.

My thoughts;

We had enough ball to win the game at a canter - our attack was pretty average on the day.

Childs wasn't brilliant to say the least but we should have won despite his reffing style.

The biggest issue for me was Brough onside for the interception - I would suspect not but it is impossible to tell from behind the sticks.

We lost 4 tries to 3 and bombed 4-5 serious chances, some down to good last ditch defence from Wakey.

The concern for me is the interplay between Burrow and Sinfield which seems all at sea at the moment, the lack of impact from either Buderus or Senior and the inconsistency of some players - early season though

On the positives; Webb was excellent, Bailey as good as he played, Eastwood looks like he could do some damage and Hall's defence when they were down to 12 was superb.

Cannot win every week

I thought Child had a shocking game, but that doesnt excuse a poor performance from Leeds.

The ruck area is just a total mess throughout super league. Terry Matterson hit the nail on the head on radio Leeds, you get a different interpretation week after week. But it was not only the ruck area where Child was off par. When Burrow made the break there was 3 clear cut penalties unbelievably all missed.

On the Leeds performance there was just no second phaise of attack. No runners what so ever - so easy to defend against. When we did have a movement off the ball Sinny fed a peach of a ball to JJB which resulted in a Mags try. But straight after that we went flat again. Simply passing the ball along the line and hoping that somebody can step or muscle their way past the defence is school boy, not the stuff of champions. We will get it back but why do we suddenly drop the skills and go so lateral? Its like they forget how to play.

At least the Kylie and Eastwood hits were worth the ticket price!! Wow.

Webb is nowhere near fit (huge kryptonite problems), bailey was his usual lazy self only Hall can hold his head up high (Senior needs to copy the youngster's example)

Cannot win every other week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote: McLaren_Field "And yet strangely the Yorkshire Radio commentators who have a distinct Leeds agenda, were both of the opinion that the referee had a good game and it was Leeds who were the architect of their gross penalty count ?'"

My wife must have been listening to a different yorkshire radio to you then.

She said that the commentaters made it clear, Andy Raleigh in particular, that the penalties against Leeds were justified, but they can feel aggrieved from the match that Wakefield did not appear to be penalised for the same offences. Therefore pointing out an unfairness.

Quote: Hopie "Much improved performance on last week! The ball moving about a lot easier and some fantastic tackles in the second half
I felt there is still a lot of problem holding onto the ball and looking for repeat sets, as I have said before Mcguire is not the best of kickers and he seemed to be doing most of it today, hasn't learned his lesson on when to kick after getting away with it at Cas last year

The ref was very inconsistent and at times laughably bad, if the attacking team kicks the ball and hits his teammate in the back of the head that's probably offside and a penalty icon_razz.gif

Senior IMV was better than last week, likewise Webb.
Burrow seems well off his game & there's no one pushing him. I'm sure he's as disappointed as anyone so no doubt he'll be trying like mad to rediscover his form.
Watkins improved once he decided to run rather than perform exaggerated sideways hops, my heart is always in my mouth over his style of ball carrying albeit that he didn't drop it this week.
Impressed again with Kylie, gave us real go forward.
They defended very well, only 3 desperate ankle taps prevented probable Leeds tries.
Re the ref, I may (well ok, am) biased but I didn't think he was consistent at the PTB, having said that he doesn't drop the ball or kick poorly.
My concern is, as I stated weeks ago, that all the emphasis seems to be on the WCC rather than on the weekly rounds of Superleague. I know that others on here agree.
Last year we were winning games despite playing well below par, this year we're not.
For Wakefield Brough was terrific, clear MOM, Tronc was a real handful & I thought Gleeson was good in defence particularly. Demetriou as ever worked his socks off as did Obst.

Rubbish from Leeds. Absolutely rubbish. Yesterday made my blood boil at how inept the whole team were. It's going to be a long season and after yesterday I'm not going on Friday.

We've gone backwards under Mclennan.

Even if we finish bottom of the league this year I’d still want McClennan as our head coach.
