Maybe now we're not so reliant on commission received, but if the club was in a dire state we would be.
Quote: G1 "
Unless, of course, you're privy to a players contract and it contains a clause that increases/decreases salary based upon my attendance at away games then I will happily concede the silly non point you have embarrassingly latched on to.'"
I'll get Frosties to root through a few more player's bins to see if they threw out any of their contracts

| I don`t think it matters if it was a testimonial or not to be honest. We were playing supposedly our biggest rivals the team we love to hate. We got over 8k for the Wakey game and without wanting to disrespect Wakefield. I personally would have thought we would get more fans turning out to watch us play Bradford. The fact it was for Disko`s benefit should have increased that number as it was going to a good cause. 8 to 10k should have been at the game considering the players on show. Let`s face it not many of us knew Webb, Bailey and Orford would withdraw before kick off so the teams were looking pretty strong I would say. Rant over.

Care to explain where I have made reference to away matches and salary cap?
Thought not. I make reference only to a self righteous fool who feels that because he goes to a meaningless friendly match he is somehow a better supporter than anyone else, even though he fails to support that said team to most away matches.
What you have demonstrated is that you prefer to spend your money as you choose, by contibuting to Matt Diskins pension fund. Fair play to you. But you spoilt that by trying to make out that everybody who supports the club should have done the same, or they are in the wrong. Not affording those same fans the choice that you had, to with their money what they choose.

With not attending the testimonial.
If they care more about trophies than cash, then cheering them on at OT weill mean more to them than paying to watch a friendly. And buying season tickets/shirts etc to fund a top squad will mean more to them than cash from a testimonial. So you shouldn't be so upset.
Unless of course that's PR speak and they're actually jolly well paid for what they do?

| The decision whether to attend testimonial games is down to individual choice. However, those who choose not to go shouldn't be too critical when the likes of Lee Smith decide to go to union to increase their financial security in later life.

'" Oh I am sure Matt is very pleased with the attendance. I doubt very much he would grumble. I am sure you're right that we have the type of players who will take more from yet another great night at Old Trafford than they would care about the attendance at their testimonial match. Then again, we have players of the right sort of character, not the kind of players who would bet on their own team to lose.
But that misses the point. Its' about us, not them and its' about us rewarding the loyalty they have shown that has benefited us in our support for this great team.
Quote: FearTheVee "Unless of course that's PR speak and they're actually jolly well paid for what they do?'" They are jolly well paid but I can assure you its' actually quite factual that the club have a strict pay grade that they do not exceed for any player. That every player can climb the grade and if they reach the correct value to the team they will be paid at the top of the grade. That players who remain in this system could earn more by moving on. That players come into this system and earn less than they could by signing elsewhere.

Certainly. I don't even have to trawl back over your posts. You very helpfully repeat the point in your next sentence. Genius.
Quote: Gotcha "Thought not. I make reference only to a self righteous fool who feels that because he goes to a meaningless friendly match he is somehow a better supporter than anyone else, even though he fails to support that said team to most away matches.'" By the way, I asked you how you know I don't attend most away matches. You haven't answered. I won't allow you to de-rail the thread with this non point any longer so I will clarify. I attend many away matches on Saturdays and Sundays, I attend many away matches in Yorkshire, I do not attend away matches beyond the County on Friday nights if they are televised. I haven't done the math but i suspect that doesn't not account for MOST of the away matches. HTH. Now, back to your failure to support Matts' testimonial.
Quote: Gotcha "What you have demonstrated is that you prefer to spend your money as you choose, by contibuting to Matt Diskins pension fund. Fair play to you. Most of our pathetic fan base chose the wrong thing.

How very relevant past Saints players are to this subject.
Quote: G1 "But that misses the point. Its' about us, not them and its' about us rewarding the loyalty they have shown that has benefited us in our support for this great team.'"
The Leeds supporters have been pretty loyal themselves over the years with very little to show for it until recently. Labouring the success angle is a bit daft as I don't see how a player who has won trophies is any more worthy of a testimonial than a player who has been just as committed and won nothing.
Quote: G1 "They are jolly well paid but I can assure you its' actually quite factual that the club have a strict pay grade that they do not exceed for any player. Every club has a salary cap and Matt Diskin isn't the sort of player a club spending full cap would throw money at. I don't know when Matt last signed a contract but if it was before his bad injury, he may even command less elsewhere. I'm sure Danny Buderus is doing OK as a hooker within the Rhinos pay structure, although I guess he's on less than Matt given that he has contributed less to the Rhinos cause.
People show their appreciation and support in different ways, there is no supporter bible that states you have to hand cash directly to players if you think they have served the club well, they are professionals and are paid for what they do.
Again, I don't necessarily disagree with testimonials and I think Matt thoroughly deserves one, but people have the right to decide whether they want or are able to give him a bonus from their own pocket when they already pay his wages through supporting the club and for many people those wages are probably more than they themselves earn anyway.

Myself included. There were hardly any players during the 1980's and 1990s that showed the required loyalty to acheive a testimonial at Leeds. Co-Incidentally, virtuall a trophy-less two decades.
Quote: FearTheVee "Every club has a salary cap and Matt Diskin isn't the sort of player a club spending full cap would throw money at. In your opinion but then again as he's not James Roby or Keiron Cunningham I doubt you would see the value in a player like Matt. Over the last 6 seasons there have hardly been any better hookers in the comp. He's got a harry Sunderland as well as 4 Sl rings so I imagine on the open market he could do quite well for himself. I am sure you would disagree but, then again, Saints fans on here rarely rate any of our players.
Quote: FearTheVee "People show their appreciation and support in different ways, there is no supporter bible that states you have to hand cash directly to players if you think they have served the club well, they are professionals and are paid for what they do.'" Of course there isn't. I never said there was. people need to use their own moral compass. I know which way mine was pointing Sunday.
Quote: FearTheVee "Again, I don't necessarily disagree with testimonials and I think Matt thoroughly deserves one, but people have the right to decide whether they want or are able to give him a bonus from their own pocket when they already pay his wages through supporting the club and for many people those wages are probably more than they themselves earn anyway.'" But they don't pay his wages. Not at a big time operation like Leeds they don't.

There you go again with personal attacks and insults. All of your posts on this thread aimed at me have contained them. Yet I have risen above it. You know why? Its' a sign I have won the argument. Not that I needed a sign. The second your responded I don't think there was ever any doubt I would win the argument. I think its' BEEN a forgone conclusion from the outset.

I don't really understand that point. I haven't ever looked at Leeds' accounts but they really must be a big time operation operation if they can run the club and spend full cap without selling a single ticket/shirt/beer/burger/etc.
