| Just look at Hall's try in the play offs at Warrington, McGuire may not have the pace to go all the way, but his composure and awareness to keep hold of the ball untill the pass was on was exceptional.

| Quote: Barrie's Glass Eye "I think had he given it Patten would have caught and tackled Zack, although you cant know for sure. Right, old head thinking by Mags, no need to risk it with tackles in the bank and a tiring team having to sprint back and try and organise on D'"
I think not enough credit was given to the fullback, who did exceptionally well to recover and make that tackle. McGuire had every right to take it on.

| It took Matt Bowen 2 years to get his speed back after an injury like mcguires. Mags will still get some pace back and is still looking sharp over 30 meters. Don't forget pattern has always been a quick fullback.

| I agree with the OP. We don't need players like that in team. Ship him out to Cas or somewhere like that.

| Tongue in cheek aside I do think McGuire was seeking glory rather than fundamentally drawing the last line of defence to put his unmarked (pacy) centre through to the line. Naughty boy. Could have proved costly.

No it couldn't and that is the key to this one for me, had this been a play off or close game I'm sure he would of made the pass.

| He saw that Patten went early though and took the right option IMO. Most FBs in SL wouldn't have been able to recover like that. I say well done Patten after not taking the ball carrier in the 1st place.

Patten's a cracking full back imho - if I had the time to watch more NRL then maybe I could have appreciated him in his prime!
He was lucky not to be sin binned though - he held McGuire down for an age.
As for McGuire not passing - meh. What was the score at that point...

| A half back backing himself, disgrace.
Patten did well to re-set his body position and quickly track back. Wellens would have been left on the floor.
Surprised no-one has mentioned the BJB pass from dummy half from that PTB, my new-born could distribute swifter!! BJB can't pass but loves to kick on it seems.

Nope I think it is in his nature to go for the line himself and only look to pass as a last resort. ... There are countless examples of this, which before his major injury paid dividends.
It is not a bad thing to have a hunger to score tries...but the lad has to recognise he has not now got that exceptional pace to burn.
I did use the word ' could ' !!
It's 'have' not 'of' by the way

Not that I would rather see Smith in his position but yep you're right. Great pace to skin his first would be tackler on the outside but worse finishing ability than Donald. ( i am overlooking his try in the cup last year against Tom Briscoe ).
Begs the question is BJB a winger ??

But are there countless examples of him wrongly backing himself - surely that's all that matters? I can't think of any glaring ones.
