Please.
The facts will show we reached a CC Final and won the GF from the lowest ever position. Two great achievements that do deserve recognition. But anybody who has seen any of his interviews must know he has the personality of a dead cat.'"
Are you aware that Personality in that sense basically means person and has nothing at all to do with the personality of the person?

| what are we discussing here?
Personality in the sense that he obviously isn't a man who thinks deeply about his feelings, his philosophy of the game of rugby league, his players feelings and how to best motivate them in times of duress, how to handle the press he receives both good and bad, the strength of his convictions and his belief in himself and his team when everyone else doubted their ability to achieve anything?
Or personality in terms of not having a polished media savvy veneer to present to the press, replete with throw away soundbites and casual banter?

You're sounding like me there Gareth! See, I said similar to you many months ago, im glad that you trusted my judgement of character/have been 'converted'

In what sense was he "forced" to start Sinfield at 6, McGuire at 7, and Burrow on the bench?

I'll hold my hands up. Early season, when things were not going so well, I thought his press appearances and quotes were bizarre and they didn't instill me with confidence at all.
You were steadfast having spoken to him and having attended his coaching sessions.
As the season progressed and the teams fortunes turned around his press appearance were far better. That in itself could be a red flag and it remains to be seen how he copes in public with pressure of adversity but having spoken to/listend to a few squad members he never lost them. I've also had the benefit of listening to him directly myself now.
So, yes, he's converted me and, yes, you were right all along.

This guy inherits a team that's had its worst season for years, with virtually no pre-season and many injured stars.
Takes flak from every quarter.
Is forced to play half the team out of position for half the season.
Takes chances with strategy and tactics.
Unluckily loses Challenge Cup Final and wins the Championship.
Well deserved recognition in my humble opinion.'"
Well done Brian indeed. I am please to have supported our coach through all the tough times when all but a few were not giving him fair chance to prove himself IMO.

| Quote: Fallon "Honestly Id like to be proved wrong.
Ive never heard him in person so cant comment on that. My view is based on seeing his TV interviews and reading the written word of his interviews (think this is in danger of turning into a disclaimer).
On that basis he fails to engage the audience, his tone is monotone and his eyes are fixed on the floor. Im no media trainer but he comes across lacking any umph.
Not disputing what he has got out of the players, more in the scond half of the season and I clearly said he should recieve recognition for that.
But personality... sorry, Ive never seen it.'"
So are you saying TV performances are the best way to judge a coach?

Another self-awarded pat on the back? You'll end up looking like Stephen Hawkins after he's been 'looked after' by his carer. Heavy bruising to say the least.

Well I know it goes against the grain for types like you to admit I was right all along. And of course you would never, ever give yourself a "self-awarded pat on the back" would you BB?

Not just those - second rows to centre and vice versa, Non-props at prop and outside backs switching from preferred positions.
He could have covered the injuries by putting a load of kids in at once, just like his successor at Quins. Remember them with their wonderful start to the season. How quickly were they burned out?
He had to cover McGuire with an experienced half. Sinfield fitted the bill. The tactical choice he made to keep him there when McGuire returned paid massive dividends for both Burrow who was reinvigorated by his 'supersub' role and Clarkson who improved steadily throughout the season.
Even if I accepted that some of the changes were not forced, I would still maintain that he made difficult choices under difficult circumstances and it paid off towards the end of the season - much more than I or you or anyone 'outside the bubble' imagined it could.

| As a assistant coaching thought he was great. As a first team coach I thought he did ok with a poor side. Then he came back to Leeds and I thought he was next to crxp. But then he got us to the cc final and we were mm's from winning that. After that we won the grand final and now I think he is a great coach. What do I know?

| I have consistently thought Mac to be a good coach - yes even whilst at Harlequins. Equally I have thought him to be a fairly poor performer on TV (way too enigmatic and thoughtful for today's sound bite/easy on the ear culture). Even this aspect of the job has improved considerably for Brian and some of his TV interviews towards the back end of last season were really entertaining and enlightening - albeit yuo always had a sense that at any second he might just jump up and thwack his interviewer.
I always thought that Bluey was terrible as an interviewee - even though he pretty much always said the 'right things', never really rated him as a club coach either even though results seem to suggest he was one of Leeds's best ever coaches.
