IIRC, it was Ian Millward's Wigan who got beat by Leeds at Headingley (70-0) and then somehow they managed to go down to an even heavier defeat at Knowsley Road to St Helens (75-0) in the Challenge Cup the following game.
I think both were record Wigan defeats, their previous heaviest defeat (certainly to Leeds, not sure about the rest) being the 58-3 reversal they suffered at Headingley in 1972 when again IIRC Wigan were in the middle of a player's strike over the quality of the concessionary pies on offer at Central Park.
All from memory mind so it's a bit of a hit and hope.

I had the 70-0 win v Saints on video and used to do the same! Until the girlfriend recorded over it with Hollyoaks. It may have been accident I don't know, personally I just think she wanted to hurt me.

Robbie Paul is selling his copy.
It's cheap as well. Classed as a second. Due to damage.
Looks like he dropped that as well.

Your memory is pretty good my friend. Jimmy Nulty was the Wigan try scorer back in 1972 and yes there were a few money issues at the time. Oh and I was there.

Me too. Only a young 'un back then though. Jimmy Nulty was a nuggety scrum-half weren't he.
As your post points up it were in the days of the three point try. I wonder what the 58-3 =#FF0000would convert to in today's money:
Leeds 58: ( =#FF000072)
Tries - Alan Smith (3), Les Dyl (2), Phil Cookson (2), Keith Hepworth (2), John Holmes, Syd Hynes, John Atkinson, Steve Pitchford, Ray Batten
Goals - Syd Hynes (icon_cool.gif
Wigan 3: ( =#FF00004)
Try - Jimmy Nulty
