| I both like and dislike threads like this.
Dislike because so many people take it as an opportunity to show their 'knowledge' rather just picking the best players.
Case in point, David Furner. Now then, Furner was a good player - played what a season each for Wigan and Leeds, possibly two for Wigan. There is not a chance in the world that Furner should be in any team before Farrell, Sculthorpe, Sinfield and possibly some others. Even at his peak playing in Australia he was not a better option that those three.
It's just a case of lets chuck Furner in as he was revered on these boards and it will earn me some points.
I like them, because it gets good debate going.
My team,
Withers
Richards
Gleeson
Senior
Vainikolo
McGuire
Long
Fielden
Cunningham
Peacock
Ellis
Farrell
Sinfield
Sculthorpe
Wellens
Lowes
Pryce

Furner played 4 seasons in SL in this decade, the same amount as Lowes and only 1 less than Richards and Farrell who you've included in your team.

| Furner was a class act, and areal bit of bad business by Wigan letting him go.(Oh and a good bit of business by Leeds signing him)
I remember talking to Frank Endacott at a reserve team game and he said "We (Wigan) have just signed the hardest forward in Rugby League, no-one will mess with him"
When I asked him to whom he referred, he said "David Furner"

| Was not sure how many seasons he played - However, if he was one of the 13 most influential players in the last 10 years i am Ellery Hanley.
As for Lowes - even though he played 2000-2003 he was far more a key cog in the Bulls wheel than Furner was in the leeds team or wiganm for that matter.
I accept he was hard, and helped other players but in the best 13 in SL give over. I dont care what Endeacott said - what did he ever achieve in SL
Enough said.

| That is my opinion. I believe withers was a very underated player. He had a few great seasons at the bulls. My choice over Wellens. I think Radlinski's best work was done in the 90's
back to my original point, whilst people are entitled to their opinions also, i just think that sticking furner in is bowing to the masses on here.
Its a bit like agreeing Matt Adamson was rubbish or Marc Glanville was the best overseas signing in the history of rugby league - do you see my point?

A Grand Final win and a Challenge Cup win, better than a lot of players including Richards & Farrell in the decade and only slightly less than Lowes. All of whom you've included in your best team of the decade.
Quote: AL Rhino "i just think that sticking furner in is bowing to the masses on here. '"
How would you know? You didn't know how many seasons Furner had played, what he'd achieved and don't care what a former coach of Furner has said about him.
I'd probably agree that I don't think Furner was one of the top 17 in SL over the decade but since you know sod all about him I don't know how you've come to that opinion.

| Funniest post ever. You rip my post to pieces claiming I know nothing, meanwhile you state Frank Endeacott won a grand final and a challenge cup, when in fact he won neither!
Check your facts mate.
Now I'm no TVOC so I make my judgements on what I see and what I remember. My thoughts on Furner were from my memory and you have also agreed with them so why you feel the need to post all your incorrect garbage the lord only knows.

You could (if you want) read your 'what did he ever achieve' statement both ways. I know I did.
I assume therefore you and BigRob are at cross purposes here. While you are speaking of happy Frank's empty trophy haul in SL, Rob appears to be talking of Furner's return.
__________
Ultimately arguing over subjective selections is interesting but usually inconclusive.

I fail to see how it's the "funniest post ever" you obviously lead a very sheltered life and have never read one of Damo's lists.
Quote: AL Rhino "You rip my post to pieces'"
True I did rip your post to pieces. Because it was bollox.
Quote: AL Rhino "claiming I know nothing,'"
Did I? Where?
Quote: AL Rhino "you state Frank Endeacott won a grand final and a challenge cup,'"
As tvoc pointed out, I obviously mistook part of your post, apologies. Frank Endacott did however win a minor premiership, still more of an achievement than 10 of the current SL head coaches, yet you are happy to completely ignore what he says. Very strange.
Quote: AL Rhino "when in fact he won neither!'"
Amazing! You are fully up to date with Frank Endacott's record yet not a player you were happily taking the p1ss out of people for including in their squads? Interesting.
Quote: AL Rhino "Now I'm no TVOC so I make my judgements on what I see and what I remember. My thoughts on Furner were from my memory and you have also agreed with them so why you feel the need to post all your incorrect garbage the lord only knows.'"
I don't keep facts and figures either, I have no need to (there is no need when tvoc's around!) however spend 5 mins on Google and a lot of these facts can be discovered with little effort. As we've found it wasn't incorrect, I simply misunderstood your post.
I felt the need to post something as you were the one talking garbage. You were implying Furner had done little and achieved little in SL. I simply pointed out what Furner had won, how long he'd been in SL whilst pointing out it wasn't vastly different from those you included in your squad. I agreed with your assertion that Furner wasn't one of the top 17 players in SL in the timeframe, but not with your inference that Furner was a ridiculous choice put in only to show off.
I was also struck by the fact you seemed to happy to completely discount the opinion of a former head coach of Furner, that seemed either strange or arrogant to me. But maybe that's just me.

Rob, apology accepted. I see now how you could have misunderstood my post.
That said i fail to see how just because just from memory (without me googling) i could not remember how may seasons furner had played in the UK makes the fabric of my origibal comment bollox.
I guarantee you 50% of posts on hear are to 'fit in' with the crowd. now I can't say with any real accuracy whether you are one of those posters, but others are and you probably know it.
Furners achievements really mean nothing when judging his impact on SL. Take Ian kirke for instance 3 GF wins but not a chance of ever appearing in anyone's team of the decade.
We all know Furner was a good player but I honestly cant agree that he was more influential to Wigan and Leeds as Lowes and Withers were to the Bulls sucesses. That does not mean you are wrong or I am right it's just my opinion.
