Personally, I totally agree with scotty, Phil Clarkes comments were out of order, to say that a player should be punished with a major injury for a minor infringement is wrong especially from some one who's career was ended with a broken neck. And all sky commentary is biased, can't stand it.
Well Said Scott, and good luck, a leeds legend.

| He does have a point about the quality of the commentary team....even my Southern rooted wife who knows very little about the game often remarks the style is similar to the guys who used to present it's a knockout. She enjoys the skill speed and tries but is bemused by the inane ramblings.
Makes you wonder whether the Rugby Union hierarchy walk the corridors of power within Sky as well as the BBC..... Keeping the upstart game still firmly in its place.

that's almost Phil Clarkesque

| Thanks to:
Scotty - superb 5 years, some fantastic memories. I can visualise him going round Wello at OT!
Willie & Franny - both players before my time but have helped to guide us to the 3 GF sucesses. Hope someone snaps them up on the coaching team!
Easty! - Honestly, hit and miss, he'll be the first to admit but he has been superb of late, I'd hoped he'd make it over here for a few years, he has the intensity, just a shame he hasn't settled. Will never forget him turning the game against Wigan in the playoffs at their place. The bloke stepped up and changed it the second that TMFMISL went off the field.

| Quote: DHM "And he's right about Stevo.
Stevo "has lost the plot" IMO, he is obsessed with minor rule infringements and overreacts to anything resembling a foul (irony of ironies from a 1970's hooker). Time for a change there.'"
I think Eddie is the major problem. He's forgotten his role which is to commentate. He should leave opinion to Stevo, Clarke and Carney but these days Eddie is offering more and more opinion and they're usually well wide of the mark.

Eddie smacks of someone who has never played the game at any level.

I'd agree, when Eddie simply sticks to commentary he's ok and as Tad said he's a good studio host but its when he gets into opinion where he gets into trouble.
I don't mind Bill Arthur's commentary when he's been doing the Championship games, admittedly I'm often not listening with the same level of interest as with SL games though.

| Quote: rhinoms "It's only relevant to THIS thread if you use it in isolation to imply that CEO does'nt see Donald as a notable departure which in this case you have.'"
If you see what the CEO actually said it's hard to apply any other interpretation.
Quote: rhinoms "Like i said the article shows that Donald is replaced in the squad by Smiths return and the mention of Eastwood by the CEO as the only notable departure is because he has yet to be replaced.'"
Eastwood's position within the squad is also covered by the emergence of Clarkson in the second row and Ambler at prop yet his departure is still regarded as the only notable one according to the CEO.

Eastwood isn't replaced by another player in the "elite" top 20 though but Donald clearly is hence the only notable departure because he will be replaced from outside the club.

Let's wait and see which number Clarkson is given for next season first shall we.
It appears, judging by frequency of selection, that he has moved well ahead of the player allocated number 20 for the 2010 season. That player I imagine would also not be universally regarded as 'elite' even within our own supporter base.

I don't have too much of a problem with that bit. I don't think you have to have played a sport to know what's going on. I mean FFS, Martin Samuels must be one of the highest paid sports journalists in the country (although I may have just shot my own argument down in flames there ).

Good point re-squad number but if we sign an NRL prop and he decides he wants 26 or some other shirt number that adds up to 8 or 10 he'll still be in the top 20 "elite" in terms of salary cap.
