| Ok, I feel I need to add something to this thread. To set the scene like many people on here I’m a long term rugby league fan, during one of my fanatical periods I didn’t miss a Leeds game for three years. That is of course if you include a visit to Warrington, a broken down car and seeing the last five minutes. I also spent one year just visiting derby matches. Why write this other than self-publication, to inform that I follow Leeds, but am a bigger fan of the brand.
On to London, having lived in London for many years I have to say, for me there are a few issues with RL in the capital.
1. Branding: London isn’t like many of the RL towns, it is huge! Also like the north each area has its own identity, think Tottenham riots, Danny Dyer banging on about Canning Tawwwn, This is Chelsea or whatever it is called, Brixton academy. The Stoop and Quins never really had an RL identity. I regularly heard people say, where is it London play, have Fulham still got a team…
2. Location: I took many people there, nightmare to get to, you have to travel across London, it costs a fortune in train fairs for a so called home game, who wants to do that on a Friday night after working in London, you can’t realistically drive there. Sat and Sunday games, you are competing with a lot of local activities in London. So where do you put a club. Shepherds Bush, easy to get there, lots of Auzzies, problem is there are too many transient people living there to set up a fan base. Charlton, you rattle around a football stadium and it’s about what is going on off the pitch as well. Also it isn’t London, Like Barnet and Watford, they a suburban clubs, not really part of London.
3. The work they did with schools. They just didn’t get it quite right. With union action meaning you have to buy in cover teachers and £150 per day in London, teachers find it near impossible to get themselves and students out of lessons. Saturdays were not an option as some schools couldn’t get kids to come in during a weekend, they wouldn’t get up. Also with the introduction of Academies many schools have intervention groups running at lunch, schools seem only interested in results.
How to solve it, I don’t know!!!

So what you are saying is when the rlif proclaim Hall the best winger in the world the RFL shouldn't push that fact because someone else may rate Boyd or George North higher?
It's like you have never even seen an advert

Give us an example of a merger that has worked in this country, for both parties?
Also, if Ryan Hall isn't the world's best winger, given that we are currently watching a world cup, I haven't seen a better one.

Halifax and Bank of Scotland, Cemex and RMC.
As far as rugby league is concerned, Give me an example of a merger, that was an actual merger, and not a ruse for one party to stay in business.? We haven't seen a merger yet as far as I am concerned.
Quote: G1 "Also, if Ryan Hall isn't the world's best winger, given that we are currently watching a world cup, I haven't seen a better one.'"
That isn't the discussion, stick to the discussion. Not surprising you jumping in with your bias towards one particular player, which was my point that fans are the ones that do that. The point is that it is not for the RFL to push such a claim over the claims of others. That is done by the media pushed by the fans led by the medias views. The governing body of no sport pushes the interests of one player over others.
Incidentally I personally, although close, would put Morris as the best in the world. As an example Hall got one MOM in this tournament where his team mate on the other wing had a better game. But as the Aussies showed last week, how weak the media are at recognising MOM, Morris got it last week when he wasn't even one of the top five of the Aussie side, but he got more tries. I expect both to be named the wingers in team of tournament, as highlights are what the media vote for.
And same as the so called "best broken field runner in the world", again showed to be behind others in the tournament in that department. That's the problem had the RFL labelled those players that.

You probably never will either, nearly all business mergers are done when one of the parties is struggling to survive, there is no reason whatsoever why two successful business should merge for their is no such thing as "merging" businesses other than a convenient turn of phrase, one of them will always take over the assets of the other, Morrisons/Safeways etc...

I can't because I don't think mergers would or have worked in this sport. Were you not arguing the opposite?
Quote: Gotcha "That isn't the discussion, stick to the discussion. '" Sometimes it's hard to follow the discussion on threads you're involved in because they tend to have, shall I be kind and say, a degree of fluency.
Anyway, you were discussing Hall earlier in this very thread weren't you?

The other time mergers happen of course is when multiple businesses find themselves unable to compete, and have to merge to protect what business they do have, cut costs and improve product quality.
A good example would be airbus. Deutsche Airbus, Aerospatiale, Sud Aviation and Hawker-Siddeley merged so that together they could compete against Boeing to build aeroplanes.
Similarly, Wakefield and Castleford are fighting to take half of an already too-small market while duplicating their overheads of running the business. They don't have the money to compete and pay a decent squad, let alone build an up-to-scratch ground or market themselves to increase the fan pool. Yet for reasons of 'tradition' (or, given Lawrie's comments, sheer stupidity) some fans will insist on burying themselves neck-deep in the sand.
