There were Warrington hand(s) tugging at the ball and, as Smith pulled it back, the ball spun out from his grasp.
Not a "simple strip", true ... but a strip nonetheless.
That's the way I saw it on the replay.
As with many others on the boards today, I'm not blaming Childs for Leeds losing but I do think he made a bad performance look even worse.
It's a long time since I've been so frustrated with a ref's decisions that he did make and others that he didn't.

Grapes, sour. He gave your try which looked like a knock on,or have you forgotten that? Child didn't score 42 points mate, your lot were outclassed and you have to accept that!

Surely is should of been a penalty too Wire, because Smith moved off the mark as someone has said he ended up over the try line.
And the try Leeds scored was a knock on

But you've missed out the fact that Smith by that time had taken 2 steps forward and was well off the mark. Had he managed to play the ball he was well over the Wire tryline.

You have exaggerated massively here, Smith was in the process of taking one step forward (and it was a step that was part of him getting up) whilst Hodgson had his hands all over the ball. Smith could easily have played the ball where his standing foot was (behind the line) rather than where his striding foot was(in front of the line). However it should never, and could never have got that far. As soon as Hodgson kept his hands on the ball after the call of held its a penalty for interference, for him to then compound that offence by stripping the ball after Smith had stood up was a penalty for interference or for stripping the ball, take your pick.
That decision, and the decision to punish JJB having been hit with a high tackle and with Morley's arm around his neck was frankly an embarrassing decision. It was very very poor refereering.
The question I would ask is what James Child has done to deserve such a game. What did Stuart Cummins see recently that meant he though Child had earned the opportunity refereeing a game at the top of SL when he has struggled so embarrassingly previously. Sticking with Child when he is so clearly out of his depth isnt good for the game, and isnt good for Child.

| We all knew the standards of Child and the fact he is the most whistle happy ref in the game..... (not condoning, or excusing his inept questionable capabilities AND it IS an embarrassment to the game that the likes of he and Alibert in particular command top games in the SL) ....so should the club and its players. Not good, but compare Warrington's discipline to Leeds'. No contest.

| TBH Leeds players are a bit like footballers, gobbling off, surrounding the ref, throwing the ball away when things not going their way. Its not something new its been going on for a few seasons now and it's a shame cos they are a decent team when they are on form. They need to have a look at themselves cos if it hadn't been Child in the middle one of the other refs would have been getting the verbals. ATEOTD Wire were a class above Leeds on the night and will take a good team to beat them.

| You cannot control the referees display. You can control you're own discipline, ball control and finishing.

Three things we seem to be lacking under our current coaching team.

| The title of thread are exactly the words I used last night, He was in his 1st season a good ref but he is getting more like Ganson for wanting to be in the spotlight, Yes we gave too many penalties away but he needs to be same for both sides, The 2 refs in last weeks origin game were more or less anon although still got odd decision wrong

Whatever you say Smith had moved forward off the mark which on its own is an offence punishable with a penalty to Warrington. Plus, as I metioned to another poster, have a look at the VT for many neutral views of Child's performance - the neutrals all agree he had a good game.

Then we should of 60+ penalties a match because 99% of the time the player in possesion gets up and steps forward at least 1 pace to ptb stop talking bollox the ball was stripped and the Ref got it wrong.
As i replied earlier lets see how many "neutrals" rate Mr Child when they get that level of performance in their games.
We lost to the better team and the penalties we conceded were fair calls BUT there are 2 teams playing any game of RL and the consistency and missing/ignoring of blatant straight forward offences by the whistle blower was poor and it's another indication that Cummings is not fit for purpose or up to task in his role as the head of officials.

Ganson sent a player off last week and has got a weekend of no refereeing duties.
Wonder if Mr Child will be back running the line next week?
(I'm not saying we would have won with another referee BTW)

Really?
Why was the verbals and frustration aimed at the Ref then?
