| McGuire pulled back Carmont and that was a penalty. Had he not done, he may not have got injured. He broke the rules and came off worst. I have no sympathy at all for him.
The "late" tackle on Richards wasn't a penalty, the Leeds player (was it Donald?) was committed.
Even so, we had a kick to win the game. We didn't make it. That's life.
Pretty fair result imo. In actual fact I am 50:50 about whether winning that game conveys an advantage to the team, but that's one of the shortcomings of the playoff system.

You're 50:50 as to whether being 80 minutes from OT and able to pick your opponents is more advantageous than being 160 minutes from OT and not being able to?
Leeds winning last night did Saints a huge favour, especially if there is an "upset" in one of the eliminators next weekend.

I geniunely am yes, and said this before the game.
Momentum is a huge factor in the playoffs and games each week can build that. Maybe some teams will benefit from the week off, but I do not think Wigan are one of them.
As for picking the team that you want to face, well I can think of no better motivational tool for the opposition than that. Makes for the easiest team talk ever for the opposition coach.

| I don't see why everyones beefing about it.
Carmont had a clear run to the line from 20 metres out after hall knocked on and was still brought down.
It wasn't martin offiah backing up on the inside here. The sheer notion that carmont would have received the inside pass then sped away from the onrushing leeds defenders like some sort of samoan Usain Bolt is the stuff of pure fantasy.
Most likelt scenario would have been that he received the pass then is brought down 35 metres out and the hooter sounds.
How things unfolded gave wigan a better chance to win the game.
Thank fook though, that mcguire pulled him back and we were spared ever having to find out, and a potential wide to west moment.

True, but an additional knock out match can also result in you being knocked out or picking up season threatening injuries to key players.

I don't care how easy the coach's team talk is - I'd much rather have a week off and choose, say, Hull KR at home after two brutal games (who we've beaten 54-0 and 68-12 this year).

It is the home draw that is the big advantage for the top 4 teams if you win in week 1. Being at home and only 80 mins away is the best possible position to be in under this play-off system! I have said before that the eight team play-off system is much better for teams that finish 3rd & 4th than the old six team system where 1st and 2nd got a better advantage than they do now. I think your point about momentum is a good one but I think the home advantage outweighs that and is also better going into the final itself, under the old system the winner of the 1st v 2nd game got a week off before the final, that is more of a momentum issue for me... ask Saints!

I disagree.
Since the playoffs began and under the various formats, it's generally been an even split as to who's picked up the title, between the team that has supposed momentum, and the team that had the week off.
I think too often people just think about bradfords win in 2005 and think ''games games momentum momentum''.
For wigan, in no way shape or form is forfitting a home FE a good thing. If you beat hull kr you'll be in exactly the same position you've been in the last umpteen years.
Going away from home, for the FE, having played 2 tough playoff games. You might as well have finished 4th lol, finishing top now means totally nothing. In recent years you've ''ran out of steam'' for the FE, but for some reason this year you'll be ''building momentum''.

I can see where you're coming from but Leeds desperately needed the week off more than any other team.

Very big for us.
Wigan fans are trying to convince themselves it makes no difference, but we have a fortnight to get Kyle fit and could be able to choose a team we've humped twice this season, including 54-0 last up at Knowsley Road.
I really fancy us to make the final now, which is some effort given the season we've had. Same would go for Leeds as they've suffered in a similar way but, if McGuire is out, I think Wigan or Wire (if they win through) would turn you over at Headingley.
I'm not sure I could cope with another Leeds v Saints final
Any news on DM?

Which is absolute nonsense.
As somebody has said previously, last nights result means that they actually have to work themselves into the position that they've failed from for the last three years.
I always maintained that we had the better deal out of last night anyway. Had we lost, I'd have been happier playing Huddersfield than I would Hull KR and I certainly won't be running to bookies to back Wigan on Friday.
