To think he was the 2nd choice kicker behind Furner for the previous rounds in the cup and only got given the job ahead of him the week before that game when we beat Saints in the league and he hit 4 from 4.

Last home game 2003, we were getting beat 20-0 iirc by Saints and looked totally gone, but in the last 25 mins we scored 5 times and won 30-20.

The pace throughout our team 2003-5 gave us an ability to score from deep Ive not seen before or since.

Does anyone remember Mcdermott dummying for a drop goal and then scoring V warrington in 97?

Or B Goulding missing a kick just to the side of the uprights in the last min which would have won the game in 97?

The 19-0 win at Wigan under Doug Laughton deserves a mention. A young lad on loan from York Matt Shaw played his part and 2 Phillis Ford tries and a 70m John Bentley try made it a happy trip.

I always remember a JPS Trophy tie at Headingley in mid 80s v Wigan, which ended in a 10-4 win i think. In that game the brilliant Tony Currie took John Chicka Ferguson on the outside near South Stand and skinned him for pace. In the 2nd half Currie scored a belter to win it. That guy was some player but whenever i mention him very few people remember him.

Craig Izzard's fight with Joe Grima which nearly went into South Stand was worthy of a mention too. First time i had seen a Leeds forward stand up to Widnes rough house play in those day. We went on to beat them that day. Izzard was phenomenal that year for us.

One of the most charismatic Leeds players ever. I remember a game at Salford when he didn't play, but was on kicking tee duties. Every time he ran on the pitch, we were chanting his name louder than we'd been cheering during actual play.

Izzard and ET - how about those two for setting the standard for overseas recruits. Two completely different types of player, but both absolutely phenomenal.

For me, ET was everything any young bloke could ever want to be (he'd definitely be my man crush).. Tough, quick, super skilful, athletic, model looks..... They don't make many like him.... Not completely perfect though, he was prone to the odd 'Ferres' moment....

IIRC Simon Irving was on kicking duties that night, banged one over Sinfield at Huddersfield like off the 'wrong' touchline for a right footer but had to retake it as the touch judges were not ready..... What? Made no difference he repeated the kick to perfection.



Another great game. Did Brett Kenny play? John Holmes certainly starred for Leeds opposite him if he did. Chicka Ferguson was also great to watch, so casual until he hit fresh air then he was gone. That was a special Wigan team that year and Leeds got over them that Saturday afternoon.

It was Steve pitchford who passed to Dyl and then onto John Atkinson. The 2 tries Atkinson scored v Bradford in quarter final in 1978 is another favourite memory from a that era.

Alan Smith coming off his wing and tackling a centre man and ball is another sight I would love to see along with Atkinson going in and out and leaving a full back for pace.

In that semi at Wigan v saints in 1977 , Steve Pitchford headbutted the late dave chisnall and the claret was flowing. He was not too happy mr chisnall. It was a tough, gripping match in awful conditions that game, which made the Atkinson try from our half all the more special and exciting. The only try of the game.

Kenny was not playing that year, it was the year after he came over. John Holmes put Tony Currie in the gap with a piece of class play, probably the last big game he won for Leeds with a. Touch of magic. The last of a very long list. Holmes suckered a young Edwards onto him and slipped Currie through. Think I have dvd of the game somewhere.

Mine is from 1991,moved to Leeds in 1990 from Suffolk at that time never having watched league before . Went to watch Jonathon Davies play at headingley for Widnes I think. I was hooked on the game from then and have had some fantastic times watching the rhinos/loiners since oh and I was one of those carrying Ellery off at Central Park great times!
