A stunning example of 60s/70s planning and architecture.
Wasn't it built to attract major swimming championships to Leeds until they realised they'd made the pool a couple of feet too short or something?

Apparently there are a number of urban myths about it (according to the linked to site) but the size of the pool was reduced simply tocut costs.

No, they had to build it because someone had be-spoiled the old swimming baths, [url=http://jerrychicken.wordpress.com/2008/08/31/cookridge-street-swimming-baths/full story here[/url
Also, my personal take on the notorious architect behind the Leeds Int Swimming Pool [url=http://jerrychicken.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/architects-may-come-and-architects-may-go/right here[/url

Quote El Barbudo="El Barbudo"Anyone catch the item on TV recently about Marc Ribout, the French photographer, who came to Leeds in the early post-war years and took loads of photos that never saw the light of day until recently?
Some really good pictures ... and they are going to take pride of place in a forthcoming exhibition.

 - the kid in the first picture with his hands inside his voluminous trousers trying to keep warm - straight out of Kes
Pic #2 I'd guess at being Kirkstall Power station, if you could enlarge the image the street name is in view ?
Again its worth making the point that those black buildings in the photos - its not just because it b&w film, they really were completely black, everywhere.
Pic#9 is not a "tunnel" as such, its the archway into Quarry Hill Flats, I think you can see Diana Dors at one of the windows too

I think McF has given us the info.
Looks like Bankfield Road, parallel with Kirkstall Road.

| I'm guessing the view of City Station is taken out of the back of the Queen's Hotel.
Pic no. 5 of City Square shows the old Exchange building, where the Park Plaza hotel is now, on the corner.

| Pic #8 seems to have Kirkstall Power Station in the background too and from the position of it my guess at the location would be somewhere in the East Burley/Hyde Park area ?
