| Hethrington's hand will be forced if he sees a sea of empty seats at the Hull game. It'll dawn on him that season ticket renewals will be down, result, bye bye McDermott and Lowes. Although I am exasperated at the current coach his tactics and the mediocrity of the playing squad I will be there to support them come what may! I just hope Hethrington proves me wrong and puts us all out of our misery and gets rid sooner rather than later, and culls another 4/5 of the remaining squad and recruits quality replacements while he is at it.

Personally, I am still firmly of the opinion that a change of coach would make very little difference, we would still be 5th, still losing games expected to win, and still be way behind the new top 4. The only way of ensuring that situation changes is a big overhaul on the playing front. Probably will still show that McDermot may not still be up to it, but at least we would have a better foundation in place than now for any new guy.
If anybody really believes that McDermott told Sinfield in that second half not to get the ball wide and to just do suicidal flat short passes back inside, then they are seriously in a daze.'"
Fully agree. Even though I have seen nothing positive about McD and a lot that is negative I still believe that the squad peaked a couple of years ago and needed freshening up in the key positions back then. Injuries and lack of form have made matters worse for the coach who has so far shown he is unable to overcome these problems and has compounded them by poor team selection.
Having said that we are seeing some woeful individual performances on the field that are the sole responsibility of the players.

Strangely, for once I believe Hetherington allowed sentiment to get in the way of reality when it came to his recruitment/retention decisions with this group of players. The signs were there last season, but some bad luck with injuries at the beginning and end of the season provided a ready made excuse to cover some pretty disappointing performances.
A number of this first team squad have gone a year (or two) too far and are currently being carried, to the detriment of the club as a whole.
If anyone seriously believes Smith, McLennan or Murray would have achieved better they're deluding themselves IMO.

Maybe not champions but any three of those would have acheived far "better" with this squad of players.

How, Gareth?
What would they have done differently to drag better performances out of the likes of Webb, Bailey, Lauitiiti etc - to name just three of those players who are clearly on the slide?

Maybe we might have a decent attacking structure. The squad may be on the slide player by player but certainly not to the extent that it has been showing this season. We are completely clueless and have been all year. It's time for a change IMO.

| P.S.
Not Noble please Gary. The sides he coaches are always boring biff ballers, and he hates this club with a passion.

So are you saying our players was always clueless and the results were all just down to a good coach?
Missed tackles, knock on's, forward passes and lack of pace are surely down to the players. JJB, Buderus and Sinfield (for most of the time) have played very well as have Burgess, Hardaker, BJB with big improvement from McShane and Watkins. Are you saying these are not doing what the coach wants yet all the bad performers are?

| Individual performances will always vary but how the team perform as a collective falls squarely under the remit of the coach. It is quite clear that some coaches are capable of getting their teams to perform beyond the sum of their individual parts, but Brian Mac is not in this category. I suspect the players are going out and working hard but they need to be well-prepared, motivated & have a structured plan. Errors tend to occur when things aren't going well for the team and individuals are under pressure - if the team is poorly coached there will be more individual errors, it is that simple.

Coached them better? I know that simplistic but isn't it obvious? If you're asking for te various methods involved then if I knew I'd obviously be doing it, or telling Mcdermott how to do it.
Andy Hay, Marvin Golden, Jamie Mathiou (spit), Paul Sterling and many others were average players coached well about their limits by Graham Murray.
Quins regressed each season under McDermott. Leeds like like they will regress on last year. He's a coach that takes teams backwards. I am sure they will be a plethora of reasons/excuses why but nevertheless there's a bad small about huim and it's starting to stick. Some coaches take jobs and their teams kick on (Murray. Smith.Mclennan even). Then there's McDermott.

By extending this logic only a little further, you could save money by just not having a coach at all. A team with no overall structure and game plan will rapidly become a beaten team, and a demoralised team, and the errors will come.
If that structure and cohesion are not the coach's job, then what exactly is the coach's job.
